http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/may/20/n70258234820-peavy-trade-chicago-white-sox-may-be-/ A team from Chicago is showing interest in trading four players for Jake Peavy – but for now, it's not the Cubs. It's the White Sox. According to Padres personnel, Peavy met with Padres manager Bud Black late Wednesday night to discuss a trade overture from the Sox. Peavy, whose consent would be needed for a trade to any club, declined all comment after meeting with Black. Within the clubhouse, though, Peavy referred to the situation as “something to think about” yet also restated his desire to stay in the National League. One of Peavy's teammates said he believes Peavy respects the Sox's aggressiveness in pushing for him but may have reservations about pitching for Ozzie Guillen, the White Sox's volatile manager.
Anyone who's surprised by this has been very naive. I'm waiting on who it's for before I form an opinion. Great prospects = good move for the future = I'm not bothered since the Padres aren't going anywhere this year anyways. Mediocre prospects = salary dump = I'm just as pissed as those who just see "Jake traded" and don't bother looking further.
Wouldn't you want the Angels to get involved and trade for Peavy? :icon_huh: Just show me a good deal, is all I ask if you trade Peavy. I don't think Towers is forced to trade him or has so much pressure to trade him like this past offseason. KT can at least wait fora good deal
I think the only person I'd be pissed to see them trade no matter who they got in return would be Adrian. I'd rather see Jake stay, but if we get good value in return for him I'll be content.
The more I read on Aaron Poreda (rumored to be the centerpiece of the deal) the more I hope Jake nixes the deal. Poreda was a first round pick but I don't think I like the negatives I'm reading on him.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/05/21/peavy.trade/index.html SI says the sox are giving up Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, John Danks and Gavin Floyd for Peavy. SS Gordon Beckham is NOT part of the deal.
It wont matter, Jake is scared to pitch in the AL. He has stated that he prefers the NL. He will nix this deal. He is going to nix it cause he is afraid of going to a park that inflate his stats.....This was just a big dick tease for Whitesox fans.
If this is the case...... "By moving Peavy’s contract, the Padres would meet the mandate of owner John Moores to reduce the player payroll to $40 million." Get rid of Giles!!!!!!!!!!
Easier said than done. Would you trade for Giles and his contract right now if you was another team's GM?
No, because if I was the GM, and I made a trade, I would want that guy at the very least to be hitting above the Mendoza Line.
exactly Which means, if they want to dump salary, they need to trade the players that other teams would actually want. I only hope that in the process of doing so they get a good return.
Rejected!!!! Atta boy Jake...give us a good year!!!! I want to think he loves being a Padre! WOOOO!!!
Glad to see Jake rejected the trade. Has anyone read why Jake wants to stay in the NL? I personally think it is because the NL is real baseball and Jake gets a chance to swing the bat and play both sides of the ball. Yes there are other advantages for pictures in the NL, but I think those are only secondary considerations for Jake. That guy loves to swing the bat and run the bases...hopfully he will get a hit this year soon!
theres really no telling right now....I have heard cause he wants to be on a contender. However his top 4 teams on his "accepted" list are the Brewers, Houston, Atlanta, and the Mets? The Brewers tried with C.C and did nothing, Houston tried with Roger Clemens and got swept by ironically the Whitesox, Atlanta won like 13 AL division titles in a row and won like 1 or 2 world series titles in that stretch, and the Mets have blown big leads with less than 2 weeks to play the last 2 years....The Whitesox have a better shot at being in the playoffs than the Padres do. Weird. :icon_shrug::icon_shrug:
All of that is ancient history and has nothing to do with whether or not those teams are contendors this year. That being said, Houston is hardly a contendor and Atlanta barely is. Houston's probably on his list because he's best friends with Roy Oswalt, though.
This and the fact they were looking to trade Adrian, makes me sick! MLB should just fold the Padres! :censored:
This makes me sick to my stomach. Fire sale folks...we are done due to some A**hole going through personal problems! :icon_shrug:
