With rumors swirling that the Chargers are pressuring Mike Tolbert to make a decision, I venture you to make your guess on the outcome. Will Tolbert be a Charger in 2012 or not?

    Pays him with what ?

There's not much left in the Kit bag that I'm aware of after the Royal signing today.

If the only other option in AJ's mind is Jackie Battle I sure hope Tolbert is back.

You have a problem with a poll, why?

I'm optimistic he will stay with us. I don't care for the idea that he is being strong armed into a decision, but I understand our need to know his choice and move on if needed.

    Mclain--FB/RB
    Mathews RB
    Hester--Cut
    Tolbert--cut
    Summers--RB/FB

We need a shifty little guy in the mix like a Justin Forsett or a draft pic.

I don't think he is needed not that we have McClain and Summers coming up form the practice squad. If we get another RB, it needs to be a scat back type guy

All we need is someone with some quickness who can pass block and catch.

If Wimbley gets cut today as rumored, what are the odds we have enough cap space left to sign him?

Id love to see us sign Wimbley but id say they are close to 0% after all the money we've spent already.. we'd have to release sum1 to make some cap room for him but who?

For all of u tweeting u want news re: Tolbert, there is none right now. Sort of a standoff going on. Tolbert has offers from multiple teams.

It would be nice to get him, we've already "poached" from our other 2 divsional rivals, so why not complete the trifecta?

None of those other offers are likely blowing Tolbert away, or he would already be gone - my guess is that he wants to return, and is simply trying to get the best deal from AJ that he can.

Why? I can't imagine, in light of the contracts given out so far (especially for running backs and backups) that Battle would get much in the way of a large signing bonus or more than 2 years on a contract; those are the only things that would allow him to adversely affect our long-term cap situation. Battle's a guy more likely to get beaten out in camp for the #3 gig by a UDFA or late-round rook than Tolbert is. I know there's a bunch of folks bent that we need to have a "starter-caliber" option for when Mathews gets injured again, but let's be realistic, if the OL is firing on all cylinders (or as best it can if they insist on continuing to run a Vasquez-Clary duo on the right side) then you can pretty much plug and play with street RB's (and there are always plenty of those) - I mean hell, Sammy Morris could be a functional runner behind a solidly blocking line.

Wimbley's trash. And no I'm not kidding. Barnes is a superior option. Wimbley doesn't play the run well at all, and go back and actually look at where his sacks came from over his two "productive" pass-rushing seasons with the Raiders... several multi-sack games (and two of those were games where he was matched up against Dombrowski and beat him like a rented mule).

Tolbert saga gonna end soon -- 1 way or other. I'm told it's not looking good. My take: Mike will really have to want to stay 4 it to work

    A few reasons...

    1. Battle has been in the league 5 years and has gained just under 800 total yds.
    2. He's going to turn 29 this year.
    3. He's a 6'2 RB with no lateral agility.
    4. We don't know if he can catch because he only has 14 carrer receptions, or pass block for that matter.

I'd rather spend a later draft pick on a 3rd RB. Or if McClain is just going to be a blocker and not our #2, maybe Tim Hightower would be a nice fit as a #2. But Jackie Battle is a scrub.

He pass-blocks well... you've got to give him that. And yes, he's a scrub... I'd sooner have Boonah back. But if the contract's short and small, I'm willing to pay for his intel on KC (guy's been there long enough to have plenty of knowledge of the offensive system and shortcomings/tendencies of defensive players) - which is something that we very rarely ever did in the past but it's an underrated practice if you have a coaching staff actually willing to implement strategy.

I don't see how signing Jackie Battle to a short-term, low-pay contract would sway the FO from drafting a late round RB if one they liked fell to them.

I'd take a free RB over Tolbert anyday, and twice on Sundays. Mathews was drafted to be a feature back. It's time he played like one, even though they're worthless.
