Raiders, Chargers could switch home dates

    September 6, 2013, 2:30 pm

ALAMEDA – The Raiders may be heading to San Diego sooner than expected. An NFL spokesman said the league and the teams are working on a switch of home dates to accommodate the use of O.co Coliseum by Oakland Athletics during the postseason.

The proposed switch would have the Raiders travel to San Diego on Oct. 6 and play the Chargers at home on Dec. 22. It would be a straight switch of home dates between the AFC West rivals.

At this point, it’s just talk. No formal decisions have been made, so the NFL declined formal comment on the issue. The prospect seems increasingly likely given the A’s success and the relatively simple switch between division foes. Oct. 6 falls on an off date between games 2-3 of the American League Division Series, and the conversion from ballpark to football stadium, or vice versa, could reportedly not be completed in time.

Of all the teams in the NFL, the Raiders are the one where it shouldn't make a lick of difference where you play them.... you better leave with a W.

While I'd be surprised if it happened, it would be nice to play (later) on grass!

Bring 'em now, bring 'em later, they are going to go home unhappy either way...

I would be in favor of this change. I was a little annoyed by all the late games with my tickets. I think it would be better to get a home game and some momentum early and a winnable road game (with a short trip) later.

Not a big deal, but a slight upgrade for the team and for my tickets IMO.

Anyone heard a solid answer on when this will be decided? The A's are almost a lock for post season at this point...

F the MLB, they didn't want to switch for the Ravens. Have the As play in San Francisco, I'm sure the giants wont use their stadium

Ravens don't share a stadium with the Orioles.

I would say no to the Raiders, and the league. We want that late season home game.

The two Baltimore facilities apparently share a parking lot and the associated traffic mess.

If it were Denver or KC, then I would agree. But it's Oakland, which isn't a very far trip and there is no winter weather to factor in.
