B - WR Craig Davis, LSU, 6-1 205, 4.40 - had him at the top of the second, like him better than Bowe - very good pick.. B+ - CB/S Eric Weddle, Utah, 5-11 202, 4.48 - had him the top safety in the second rd - was surprised they went up and got him... B+ - ILB Anthony Waters, Clemson, 6-2 240, 4.62 - I've been pimping him awhile - think he's perfect for our 3-4... he was the steal, so far... nice draft - it filled needs....
I'm definitely satisfied with the draft thus far. I'm not surprised that AJ traded up if he wanted Weddle... He wouldn't have been there at 62. Grades B, A, A
I dont question AJ. If AJ took him he can play for us. Last season I questioned AJ's whole draft, bashed Cro and the others, and they made me look as stupid as I was. Lesson learned. Waters looked good to me, if he is healthy he will fit right in with our big FAST LBs.
Waters is more physically gifted and plays with more intensity than any of our ILBs. The only advantage Coop and Wilhelm have over him is experience and familiarity with the system. I fully expect Waters to be the #1 backup over Dobbins and if he fills in for Coop or Wilhelm due to injury, one of them won't be getting their jobs back in 2008. Waters can also be used as a pass rusher if we are thin.
Torn ACL, Missed the entire season last year. Was a projected late first easy 2nd guy before the injury.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2571987 This dude woulda been long gone had he stayed healthy. AJ said they would be looking "years down the road". I don't see much contribution this year, but next year the guy is going to be a BEAST.
I think their best pick came in the 3rd round so far... Waters is a steal in my opinion as far as Weddle and Davis goes, it's just my opinion, but I liked Steve Smith over Davis for a deep threat, which is what we need for Rivers (but this is easily debatable) unless Weddle is defensive rookie/player of the year, I don't care what he does...he won't be worth all those potential picks
I like the Davis pick. The other two names at the time were slot type receivers with a lower end speed. Davis is a solid receiver, good speed and can move around the field. He is a good pick, and in my opinion will be better than the other two Mel Kiper was saying we should take at the time. Besides, AJ is the master of the draft, dont question him, I did last year as was shown to be an idiot for it.
totally agree... and his teammates love him... voted captain of the team AFTER his injury... he is animated to be sure... he'll raise the emotional level of the defense...
I am not thrilled with the trade for Weddle. It was amazing how many S's came off of the board. I am hopeful we can trade Weddle and Turner for Nelson and some picks with Tenn. I hope that is the plan. I am starting to think A.J. got his bluff called.
Exactly. Instead of soft serve Donnie Edwards and zippermouth Randall Godfrey, Waters will go berzerk along with Merriman and to a lesser extent, Phillips. I don't like quiet defenders in the front 7. Anthony Waters is really a stud and who is to say that he won't be a better pro than David Harris. Similar players, Harris the safer pick, Waters with higher ceiling. Waters will probably never get pro-bowl recognition but will be an unsung hero
Thank AJ you have nothing to do with the decision making process for the team. You are aware of who Tennessee drafted today, right?
The way you paint this dude, he sounds like another Gary Plummer....That dude was like the movie Rudy (the undersized kid who aspired to play football at Notre Dame). I hate Rudy's....They either push the starters or we get some hungry asssholes off the streets who want to be ballers. :football:
leisure thinks Waters is a mandingo. He is a man amongst boys and could eat a wiry guy like Stephen Cooper whole. He is ripped and has rough skin and a serial killer attitude. you will like this guy trumpet man He is like Dobbins but much bigger, faster and better in coverage with a higher football IQ.
Anyone else think Waters is more suitable at SILB? That would raise the bar of athleticism at that spot. I'm not sure Waters will be able to have enough lateral speed and change of direction for the more coverage intensive WILB - especially not this year.
perhaps, but in either spot, you can send him... and he's got the speed to beat o-linemen... can't wait for mini now... I'm hoping for Ryan McBean 3-4 DE in the 4th...
