    Actually, that's not a bad thing. A friend of mine owns a small cafe and bar outsidea the gates of Ft Sam Houston. From the name "Drop Zone", and its proximity to a major military base (FSH is the home of military medicine-military docs, nurses, and medics from all over the world come here for military medical training. Plus, Brooke Army Medical Center <BAMC> is home to the world famous Brooke Burn Wards, where burn victims from everywhere get definitive medical treatment>), y'all can guess that abuncha ol FOGs hang out here.

    In an attempt to help prop up the business, I volunteered to run a karaoke gig. We did it as a lark, but also to see what kinda response we'd get. But for the past month, medical students from FSH have been showin up and spendin $$$, so the gig continues, as business, at least on Friday and Saturday nites, has definitely picked up!! :tup:

    I started this as a lark...I have very little talent as a singer, so I'd never axt for compensation.

    When this stops bein fun, then I'll stop doin it, altho I'm considering a larger investment. The machine I'm using isn't very good, and my karaoke library isn't very good/big, so I'm considering an upgrade in botha those areas.

      I can attest to that. Arkansas had some of the worst weather I've ever seen. I spent a week taking a class at Camp Robinson in N. Little Rock in the late 80's and EVERY fuggin' night for the whole week was rockin' and rollin' outside my window.

      But I have seen 7-10" of rain at my house here in S. TX within 24 hours. That's a lot of damn rain.

          So I'm sitting at a railroad crossing in Oakland yesterday and the damn thing keeps going up and down and letting one car at a time through at best. It's my turn and darned thing goes about 3/4 of the way so I start to go. It comes flying back down and hits the top of my new Silverado. I pull over on the other side and there's a dent on top on my passenger side (and a bunch of white paint). The dent isn't that big but at the time I was hot. Anyways I look over and there's a couple of Union Pacific guys in a truck on the track just sitting there watching all this happen. They took off and just looked at me so I gave them the old salute. I did call the railroad and they're actually sending me a claim form so we'll see.

          I guess it's now officially a truck. That didn't take long.

                That reminds me of something I heard many years ago when my mother and I were on a plane to SF, and for some reason the flight attendant shared this with us:

                "I can always tell when people from Oakland have been on this plane: there's always a bunch of trash on the floor, cigarette burns on the seats, drinks spilled everywhere. They just have NO CLASS".
