Favre has had a history of throwing alot of Int's in December in the past, and generally falls off a little in December. That's what I'm hoping for to get him out of the MVP discussion. If Rivers can't win it, then let it be Brees. Manning and Favre already have multiple MVP's.
Favre's not going to win the MVP. The MVP is either Manning or Brees and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. But, at the same time, all the know-it-alls are jumping the gun with the "Favre's about to collapse" train. He's had one bad game. Big whoop. There is no trend. (perhaps, yet, but it's not there as of the moment) And don't tell me about last year unless I'm missing the news report about Favre injuring his throwing bicep again.
He has a history of tailing off even when he was with Green Bay in the month of December. It is a trend with him over the last 5-6 years.
For Rivers to even have a shot at winning MVP he'll have to win out... and throw for more than 30TDs and be under 10 INTs. Brees and Manning will also have to lose at least 3 games each. Anyone know the history of regular season MVPs also going on to win the Superbowl that same year? I"m willing to bet it ain't good. Give Philip the Lombardi and SB MVP. I don't think he really cares about anything else.
Really? http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FavrBr00/splits/ Seems about even across the board to me. I'll give you that it is technically his worst month statistically speaking, but looking at those stats it's not like it's atrociously worse, just slightly worse.
Leo... what do his TD/INT #'s look like for Dec 04 through Dec 09? I think that's what the poster was referring to.
What's the point of limiting it to those specific dates? You may as well be asking me what his numbers are under a full moon and when Neptune is in retrograde. edit: Sarcasm may have befuddled me again.
The man said that Favre has played poorly during December over the past 5-6 years. Your snapshot showed Favre's career. HERE: Month..... YR... TD... INT DEC........ 04.... 6..... 6 DEC........ 05.... 0..... 9 DEC........ 06.... 4..... 8 DEC........ 07.... 6..... 5 DEC........ 08.... 2..... 8 DEC........ 09.... 2..... 2 .............total. 20... 38... :icon_shrug: He does have a pretty good Win/Loss record in December 04-09 despite those stats, though.
Great post, that was exactly my point. A drop off enough to make him an afterthought for the MVP, because everyone in the media was all over him for MVP with his November Offensive player of the month award. His body will get tired this month, he's older, he will continue his lackluster December. I do think Brees is the frontrunner and will most likely win it, unless he breaks down completely.
I think if Brett has a bad December this year, it will be because Peterson is having a bad December. AP has struggled recently, but if he gets hot down the stretch I think Brett will be fine. We shall see.
I think he's getting a lot of respect....at least from the announcers. Maybe not the fans because of misconceptions about him. I believe last game they said he was up there with Peyton and Drew for elite QB's. I hear nothing but love for him.
Whoops. I read "Dec 04 to Dec 09" to read December 4th through 9th. :icon_rofl: I feel kind of dumb now. :icon_eek::icon_party:
MVP talk of Rivers is already heating up. check this link out... http://www.nctimes.com/sports/footb...cle_8befca53-cf03-5548-b7a1-d61c75722077.html
The only thing I want Philip on pace for is the race to the Super Bowl. Ask Fout's and Marino what stat's will get you.
exactly, i dont care too much if rivers gets MVP or any of our players get voted in the probowl. i dont want them there, i want them in the big show.
Ha, I just read the article, and thought NC Times was North Carolina. I didn't look at the header. Didn't know it was from the San Diego area. I found that link through either NFL.com, or ESPN.com, I can't remember.
I'm with Mark Twain. "There are lies, then there are damned lies and then there are statistics". The only stat that matters is the scoreboard.
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/7803/chargers-make-big-plays-at-the-right-time Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who is working his way into the league MVP chatter, found receiver Vincent Jackson for a 39-yard reception down the San Diego sideline to the Dallas 14. On the next play, Rivers hit tight end Antonio Gates for an easy touchdown pass play to give the Chargers a sudden 17-10 lead.
After the Cowboys game Rivers is on pace for: 4,410 yards, 27 TD's, 9 INT's and a Passer Rating of 103.33
Rivers got some love from Colin Cowherd on the SportsNation tv show. He said if Philip played anywhere else, everyone would be talking about him and his performances. But because he plays in a city where football is secondary to the cities attractions, being a small market, he gets overlooked. Maybe, but then again the media is all over Manning, and Brady's nutsack, and it doesn't help with Brees being Undefeated this year as well. If ESPN and some other media outlets (NBC), weren't so East Coast biased, he would get the proper recognition he deserved.
i want him to do what it takes to get us to the playoffs, then lead us through the playoffs, past playoffs, into the superbowl and out with a lombardi.
