If somehow the 3 of these guys were up for draft again and you knew everything you knew as of last sunday, who would you draft as the better franchise qb? Why?

    Manning.

Then do the whole thing the exact same way so that we end up with Philip Rivers and all of the picks that came with the deal.

    /thread.

really you'd pick eli over big ben and rivers? IDK big ben is a better qb than manning imo and has 2 sb rings!!! Rivers is the best qb in my opinion though, he just lacks a ring!

    I believe Rivers is better.

At the time of the the draft I wanted Ben. I thought he was better than Sheli and I didn't even consider Rivers.

The way it worked out was an absolute steal for us. It couldn't have worked out better.

At the time I didn't want any of them, as I was fine with giving Brees another year to prove himself. I felt like we wasted a very valuable draft pick in a potent draft.

Having said that, I am very pleased with Rivers, and glad it worked out the way it did. I'd draft Rivers before the other two.

I don't think you read what he said.

He said he'd draft Eli....then do the trade like what happened for real.

I'm not talking about having a trade though. I'm saying if you only got to pick them. not rivers and merriman for manning....

Yeah, it does kind of slant the opinion if you try and say you'd do what really happened.

Even if I thought Eli was a little better than Rivers I'd still do the trade because Merriman and Kaeding come with it.

But, even straight up, I'd take Rivers over the other two.

Ben has two rings, but I'm sure Rivers would as well if he was on those Pittsburgh teams.

Did you even read the thread or just look at who started it and went right for this?

This one actually isn't a bad discussion.

bait for what? A discussion on three QBs?

If he hijacks his own thread then whatever, but in the meantime it's not that bad.

Knowing everything, I would still take Rivers.

There's an underlying assumption that if we selected either Sheli or Big Ben, we'd get the Lombardis that came with them. Uhm, probably not. We still had some glaring weaknesses back then.

So knowing the type of leader Rivers is, his uncanny desire to win, it ain't over till the plush sized lady sings attitude, and overall bada*sness (in a good way).

    I'd still take Rivers.

Yeah totally Rivers. Big Ben 2nd, Eli 3rd. All good quarterbacks, but Eli brings the least to the table. They are all excellent decision makers and can make all the passes. Rivers brings something extra with his fire, Ben with his size... Eli is just good.

Even if we couldn't make the trade it like happened, I'd still choose Rivers over the other two.

Eli is a trash QB that rides on the strength of his defense. When the Giants defense is good, the team wins. When it has injuries he can't compensate.

Big Ben is a great QB, but takes too many hits because he holds the ball too long. He gets sacked almost 50 times a year because of it. He's also a wild man off the field, riding around in motorcycles and putting himself in position to have sexual assault accusations levied against him.

    That leaves Philip Rivers.

P.S. I noticed you left out the other 1st round QB taken that year. J.P. Losman.

    Yeah, not worth mentioning. :D

Rivers is the better QB but unfortunately, he got the raw deal.

I hate to say it but Eli's decision to not come here seems to make more sence after each passing season.
BUT... he still should have honored the team that took him. This is the NFL draft, not the NFL job fair!!!

Because. He disagrees with AJ, therefore AJ is an "egomaniac" that Eli wouldn't have had to deal with.

I mean, it's apparent by Rivers' lack of an extension that Eli would have had trouble dealing with AJ....

I have never bought into the "He has a ring so he must be better argument". That would make Brad Johnson a better QB than Dan Marino. For mine its Rivers over Ben then Eli.

The fact that this can be debated proves that this was a bounty year for first round quarterbacks, with the exception of JP Losman. I think any team would be happy with any of the above. And, that was why AJ was happy to trade down. He felt the differences between the three quarterbacks was small.
