He was healthy at the time of drafting and able to contribute his rookie year, Troutman won't be

This really shows you that the chargers love him as a player. If they knew about this and STILL drafted him. I think this is likely a good thing for us. I think he's a guy who we want to replace Vasquez at RG, and he's more of a true mauler RG, so a redshirt season wont really hurt him too much.

Does make you wonder why they picked him where they did though.

What I don't understand is we knew he may miss the season yet we fail to bring in any more common named UDFA's at OT OG

maybe they tried maybe they didn't

    Lucas Nix, G, Pittsburgh
    Rishaw Johnson, OG, California
    Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State
    Jeff Adams, OT, Columbia
    Jaymes Brooks, G, Virginia

    Markus Zusevics, OT, Iowa

    Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU

    James Brown, OG, Troy

I gave this pick a D, I now give it an F. This guy would have gone undrafted for sure, and even if he hadn't he wasn't worth more than a 7th round pick anyway. It's a risk you let another team take, meanwhile the Steelers landed Chris Rainey 10 picks later and we still don't have a backup RB I trust.

An unfortunant "AJ pick" in the middle of what was a good draft.

If "If's" and "Buts" were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas

But players I'd rather have over Troutman

    OT Senio Kelemente

    RB Chris Rainey

OLB Terrell Manning (can never have too many pass rushers in a 3-4, plus how sweet would it be to hear Manning sacking Manning)

    WR Marvin Jones

    FS George IIolka

    CB Asa Jackson

    RB Cyrus Gray

    WR Tommy Streeter

    OG Brandon Washington

    OT Matt McCants

    WR Marvin McNutt

    WR Juron Criner (Raiders:cautious:)

    and the list goes on

Among those only two of them are viable "AJ" picks and both of them would have been tackles having to make a position change (Adcock and Zusevics). History doesn't lie, AJ only drafts OL from the Big 10, Big XII, and SEC. Nowhere else. At this point it's been a strong enough trend that it's barely even worth considering him drafting from other conferences, it's just not likely at all to happen.

Steve on another forum posted this interesting thought:

"I wouldn't be suprised if both Molk and Troutman were selected specifically because they were recently hurt. Not only do we get players who are valued higher than their draft spots, but if we place either or both on IR, it won't look in the least bit suspicious. And both players will accelerate the learning curve since they will have more than a full offseason in the Chargers program, and maybe even some playing time in TC. In short, it is like getting 2 extra draft picks next year, both of which help us find depth at OG (Troutman directly, Molk because he potentially slides Baxter over)."

With the new CBA rules they have been investigating this for sometime now, Many teams owners have been suspicious of this getting players to put on I.R. and stash players
