WalterFootball.com's latest 5 round mock draft.... http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2010.php They have us taking... 28. Ryan Mathews 40. Terrance Cody (apparently I'm not the only one who thinks he'll fall here) 91. Alex Carrington 126. Eric Norwood 159. Marcus Easley 168. Larry Asante
Its a possibility for sure.. ..IMO Mathews will be gone before the 28th pick as he is the best overall RB prospect in the draft! So once hes gone...we get the next best player for what we need...that would be Cody. There will be plenty of other good players available, but none that plug our biggest holes!
The Texans fans call bullshit on the rumors that they're even considering Ryan Mathews. Its completely against the Kubiak M.O. They need a corner desperately. Mathews is just their smokescreen so nobody jumps ahead of them and takes Kyle Wilson or Earl Thomas.
The only people who aren't calling it obvious BS are the people who get paid to talk BS. They just lost their top CB and they have scrubs mostly there to fill the hole. Not a chance they take a RB especially if Kyle Wilson etc are there. With the mock, that's a damn good draft if you ask me. Top two needs fixed, Carrington's a very good fit for a DE. Might've considered Sam Young in the 4th in place of Norwood (don't know much about him) and instead of Easley I think I'd have taken a shot at LeGarette Blount as a back up RB. That late it would give us a great mix with a scat back (Sproles), a jack of all trades (Matthews) and a sledge hammer (Blount). Asante is good only if the Chargers don't think anything of Ellison
Being that Ryan Mathews is fast becoming the no.1 pure running back prospect...any of the following teams could theoritcally take him before the Chargers at 28th... Denver 11th Miami 12th San Francisco 17th Seattle 14th Houston 20th New England 22nd Philidelphia 24th Cody WILL fall because of his weight issues and may in fact be there with the #40 pick..however there is aways the threat of Oakland taking him before us!
Denver- Just spent the 12 pick on Moreno last year. Miami- Already have Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. They have a slew of bigger needs including NT, OLB, S, CB, WR etc... San Francisco- To much the same as Gore and Glen Coffee, their interest in Spiller makes more sense. New England- Need help at RT, OLB/DE, CB, S, WR, and TE... RB this early is a reach. Philidelphia- Doesn't fit their scheme at all. They'll look at safties, pass rushers, and interior O-line. Houston- Already explained why they don't need him. Seattle- Possibly. I think he's a much better compliment to Forsett than Spiller is, but they havn't registered any real interest in him and I think they have bigger needs on defense and O-line. I really think theres about a 95% chance Mathews falls to us. Cody to Oakland makes no sense at all.
AJ is gonna pass on Mathews like he passed on Rey last year and Charger Nation is going to implode! I can feel it!
I don't see Detroit picking DT's with their first two picks. Their corners are poor, which is why they were rumored in the Cromartie trade. I can see them jump all over McCourty if he's there at the top of 2 there. Rumor that Jacksonville is enamored with CJ Spiller, if they take him...SF or Seattle could go with Matthews. It'll be an interesting day.
Dwyer WILL NOT go before Gerhart in the draft. http://bolttalk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21769&highlight=Toby Gerhart
Yeah I can see him taking Jahvid Best. Then he's going to pass on Tate at 40...and YOU are going to implode.
Nope. Not at all. I like Tate, but I also have studied enough backs to have found things I like in a lot of them. Only thing I would be mad at is him reaching for Scott. AJ and his LSU tendencies scare me, big time. I would be a little sad if he drafts Best @ 28, just because the injury factor. That's A LOT of $$$ to pay a guy that could be one big boy hit away from being done forever. Aside from that I LOVE Best.
I dont think they will take Mathews either. I am pretty confident he will be there for us. I have them taking Thomas and a CB in the 2nd round.
