    It was never even a case of likely. It would have been between Dallas and New Orleans for him, and the only reason to pick Dallas would have been some familiarity and Jerruh backing up a Brinks truck to Payton's place. More likely what it was is that Payton used the possibility of jumping for Dallas as leverage to get a mega-deal and a pay-bump over what his last extension gave him.

    Spanos never would have shelled out the coin to bring Payton here.
