I don't believe he was ever really available to begin with.
He wasn't, but several people here kept throwing out his name as a possibility
Hope springs eternal, and delusion at least as often.
I never thought it would be likely, but wishful thinking had me hoping for him to wind up here some how,,,
It was never even a case of likely. It would have been between Dallas and New Orleans for him, and the only reason to pick Dallas would have been some familiarity and Jerruh backing up a Brinks truck to Payton's place. More likely what it was is that Payton used the possibility of jumping for Dallas as leverage to get a mega-deal and a pay-bump over what his last extension gave him.
Spanos never would have shelled out the coin to bring Payton here.
Spanos doesn't want to win.
He was a long shot at best
I ranked our chances right up there with Mayan doomsday predictions.
In other news, Bill Belichick is also no longer available.
Reliable sources have reported that Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry and George Halas are unlikely to be named the next head coach of the San Diego Chargers.
It would have been stupid to hold out for him anyway considering the circumstances of when he'd be able to be hired.
Separate names with a comma.
