Hey can anyone tell me why is Dan fouts so much more beloved than Stan Humphries? Fouts didn't take us to a Super Bowl, Humphries did, You don't even see a throw back jersey made by anyone for Stan but you do for Fouts. I wonder why?:icon_huh:
Air Coryell baby. Legendary stuff. Despite gacking in the playoffs it was near offensive perfection with a style not really ever matched. I bet 80% of the people on this board couldn't say who Humphries starting receivers were in that Superbowl without looking it up. I am part of the 80%.
#7 won a couple Lombardi's, #21 never sniffed one and sat on the sidelined and pouted, *****ed and moaned. Then after the loss told the whole world how classy he is. 21 should still be active, end of story.
Probably because it takes more than a QB to go to the Super Bowl and, while I won't argue that Humphries is under-appreciated by Chargers fans, he is hardly on the same level as Dan Fouts. Super Bowl appearance notwithstanding.
Tony Martin and Alfred Pupunu were two of his favorite targets. But what can I say? That was around the time I became a bolt-head.
#7 didn't win a Lombardi. The Denver Broncos won a couple Lombardies with #7 at quartterback. #7 couldn't win jack **** in the playoffs until they gave him #30 to divert attention away from his passing attack. Do you think Trent Dilfer deserves to be in the HOF and have his number retired by the Ravens?
I've never really seen the sense in retiring a guys number. Seau was as important to this team in his time as LT was in his, do we retire 55 as well? I think that Mathews should wear whatever number he wants to. Now I will tell you that I would be happy if I never saw another #16 Chargers jersey, too many bad memories attached to that one...:icon_eek:
It's an honor thing and, as I stated before, if the Chargers franchise shared that same opinion (that retiring a number doesn't mean much or make sense) then I wouldn't care. But they already set precedent that they want to honor their best players by retiring their jersey numbers and LT certainly fits into that category.
I'd be fine if they retired LTs number. Wife still pissed he's gone. Wife owns two LT jerseys Wife does not want to see another player in 21 Wife not happy with Chargers Wife would be less pissed if his number was retired Nuff said :flag:
What does any of this have to do with your assertion that "#7 won a couple Lombardi's, #21 never sniffed one..." in some lame attempt to insinuate that being on a better team makes Elway much more deserving of being honored by his home team than LT is? If you're simply of the opinion that numbers shouldn't be retired, then ok, but that's not what you said.
Elway got pretty lucky too. before His last too years he continually got his *** beat in the playoffs and superbowl.
I think it woul dbe cool if he was #26, his number in the draft. After all of LTs talking down on the SD , i would have no prob with Matthews wearing the # 21.
I thought he has already said he would take No 33 (his first number at highschool) and leave 21 for remembering LT
