It's way too early to tell how these draft picks and FA's will turn out, and I don't care all that much about what SI (especially Peter King) thinks - but I don't think they put their "A" team on this gig. Probably sent them to kiss Peyton's butt and write the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!

    Puds.

Oh good, another meaningless preseason evaluation. More virtual butt wipe.

Can't argue too dang hard about the Boltz' C (for the moment) but I consider it a mid-term offseason report card. Telesco's not done yet!

If he is deserving of a C, then would could you have seen Telesco do differently to potentially earn an A? Grades should be relative to situation for this reason.

Telesco was hard against the cap with many players needing to be re-signed at key positions. With very little flexibility, he:

    --Re-signed:
    Donald Butler[IMG]
    Darrell Stuckey[IMG]
    Chad Rinehart[IMG]
    Reggie Walker[IMG]
    Richard Marshall[IMG]
    Seyi Ajirotutu[IMG]
    Rich Ohrnberger[IMG]
And let driftwood like Thomas and CBJ go. Very impressive feat to retain all of our special team aces in addition to key role-players and Donald Butler.

--Signed depth in positions that needed it, including RB, ILB, and CB.

--Used the draft to address every single one of our other needs with the exception of NT, which is being banked on a rotational system that had seen success post-Jamal in years past. Starting CB? Check. Starting pass rusher to insure Ingram/take over for Freeney? Check. Replacement for Hardwick/Clary? Check. He even addressed our RETURN game!

I cannot honestly see what Telesco could have done better besides potentially using the R3 pick on a receiver or address the Clary situation sooner.

Agreed. Don't forget Cordarro Law (pash rush) and Dontrelle (?) Inman (WR) from Canada.

We don't know how any of these guys are going to work out, but the writer of that article was just f'n lazy.

You don't spend $150 mil in guaranteed money you get a C from the talking heads. Not a surprise.

I remember this time last year people were calling us a 4-12 team, and that Rivers would be joining Norv in Cleveland soon enough.

FWIW Denver for it's crazy spending spree got a B+, Jags got a B+ and Raiders got a B-

I don't think there's any common sense to this outside of "spend money = better grade", and it's routinely proven whoever wins April doesn't win in January. So whatever, let them say that and let's see if the Bolts can surprise them.

It almost never works when teams make a ton of big splashes in FA, the return rate with the new team is never the same as it was with the old.

That said, a wisely chosen signing or two like the Seahawks with Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, can make the difference between a good defense and a great one.

We didnt have the cap space to buy an A. Who cares what grade you get before the first snap of the preseason?

Tell me next February how we did and grade then. If I got a report card for my son two months before the start of school, I might be a peeved at the system... Just sayin....

Hey everybody knows TT has one hand tied behind his back b/c of AJ's backfires. Plus, (even though I wouldn't have it any other way) the playoff run cost us draft positioning. Combo those up and it's tough for the Boltz--but you really can't count bad luck in your favor. TT's done the best he can, and that's basically addressing our depth problems from last year, adding where he can, and resigning keepers.

I stopped reading Peter King when he went on a gun control rant last year. I haven't missed him.

Given that the Seahawks used a rotational pass rush, I think they could have still been great with cheaper alternatives...although they felt that Bennett was important enough to retain for a hefty salary given his well-rounded skillset.

But they are not a team that you look at and think of their big FA acquisions. You think of their draft success, especially in the later rounds and UDFA process, which is how a great team is built in this league.

Putting O'Brien Schofield in a rotation doesn't get him any closer to being a double digit sack guy than it would Larry English, or Quentin Groves, or any other low tier talent. The Seahawks knew they had an issue, they addressed it with players they knew could play, and they did not pay them exorbitant contracts either. I applaud them for having the balls to realize that their window was open, and dig into FA where other teams may have stood pat and kept saying "lets wait until next year when we have..."

And again it can't be stressed enough, they did not overpay anybody, they supplemented a solid roster with FA.

He's had far more deserving opportunities to be punted.
