And what makes you think they'll pick him? Last time they had a #1 pick they reached for a guy who was mid 1st round talent at best.
Oh yea, I can accept building from within and all, but it pisses me off when they waste picks on guys like Bush, or those college pitchers with zero potential and at best will be a #3 starter (Stauffer). It's frustrating when we pass on these physical freaks who have the potential to be an all-star for a "safe" pick, because how often do they work out?
Dont matter, we probably will never see him play. Not too sure how our drafting has been but up to this point, not many of our picks have made it.
It's a good thing the guy that made that pick won't be handeling next year's draft, just like he hasn't since that draft.
I don't think Towers wanted to deal with Drew, or more specifically his agent. I was more disappointed they passed on Verlander.
Possibly, but even so I doubt KT would have drafted Drew anyways. It's well known that Kevin Towers does not like to deal with Scott Boras.
Unless there's some drastic front office changes in the next few days Grady Fuson and Sandy Alderson will be in charge, as they have been for the past 4 drafts.
Just because he's not running it doesn't mean he doesn't have any interest in it. It does affect his team, after all.
The Matt Bush pick was all about Moores wanting to save money, I mean I know Towers has had bad drafts but I hope even he isn't that bad, to just overlook all the top talent available in the draft. And thankfully Fuson and Alderson are making the picks but I'm sure Towers has some input even if they make their own decisions on it. Just pick the best player available, none of this picking by position of need, because who knows what position we'll need by the time that prospect reaches the majors, and even if it does create a log jam at least it gives you pieces to deal for someone who might better fit the team. We'll see how they draft though.
It's about time they started investing in Latin American players, hopefully they can land some talented prospects. And as far as the main purpose of the thread, looks like the Padres want to ruin the chance of drafting Strasburg by winning.
we just arent a big enough of a market team to keep quality players to be able to win a championship. its just like football, you need to build around certain players. One superstar isnt going to take you all the way. You need a supporting cast and honestly I think thats too much to ask for with the padres organization.
If the Marlins can do it any team can. **** the Rockies and Dbacks have done a better job of building their team through youth. We'd have a great team if our farm was able to produce anything at all.
