http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8596859/kansas-chiefs-cut-stanford-routt-name-gary-gibbs-new-dc Chiefs waived him today. I usually wouldn't suggest such a mediocre player except mediocre might be an improvement over Antoine Cason. I'd probably let him pass through waivers and then try to snag him before Oakland does.
Definitely gotta look at him if you're Pagano. If nothing else he is depth and competition at the nickel.
Idk what the price on him will be but if its nothing crazy id be interested.. we stole a nice player from KC last year in Gaither maybe we could get a nice player from them in Routt again this year
Ahem... Yes, let's get him before any of the other teams (including the CFL) find out that he is available! He would be a valuable asset to the defense, a real playmaker! We should be able to pick him up for just a few million, and he has stated that he is up for a Nobel Peace prize since he claims that he is the cure for locker room cancers. Pointy
Let's see, the Chiefs are not very good this year, so we should pick up a player they cut because he is not good. Right. I think we should just say NO.
Chiefs waive CB Stanford Routt. We're starting to get scapegoats in Kansas City. Even though Routt is a vested veteran, all players must pass through waivers this time of season. A starter through Week 8, Routt was a healthy scratch for Week 9. Javier Arenas will now start opposite Brandon Flowers, leaving Jalil Brown for nickel duties. Making $6 million in the first year of a three-year deal, Routt has graded out as the 16th worst cornerback in Pro Football Focus' rankings, so the move is justified, if surprising. He should draw plenty of interest as veteran depth for the stretch run.
Still not better than what we already have. Depth? We already have 5 CB's that can start in front of him. Pass.
And Routt has had a great year? In the span of less than half a season he's been cut...twice. By the Raiders and Chiefs. He was drafted because of his 40 time. The guy once ran really fast in a straight line, but he has zero instincts as a football player. Soft tackler, poor ball skills, can’t stay with WR’s and led the league in defensive holding calls last year. I rest my case.
5? Jammer, Wright and Gilchrist maybe. Imho no way is Cason is better. Who's is number 5?, Chris Carr? Not saying we should go out and get him, not sure what his $ is like and all, but I liked him as a Raider and I'm all for getting someone in ahead of Cason who should be returning punts the rest of the season and nothing else.
Dont think we need Routt as bad as he has been playing but, 16th worst CB is better than 2nd worst CB where Cason was (Before last week, not sure after last week)
This one would've gone for 6 on Cason. http://www.kcchiefs.com/media-cente...f-Palmer/5a5b29cc-ffa1-49de-8789-86b7b26e4090 Don't be stupid AJ. Bring him in.
If the price was cheap then sure, he'd probably be a good pickup, but he's not someone who could coome in and automatically solve all of our problems in the secondary.
Somebody tell me WTH is wrong with Shareece Wright??? He played so well in pre-season. Is he still injured? still????
Wright is still trying to get back.. football shape, sure up tackling, so he'll be used on special teams, but hopefully after the Tampa game or maybe even during it he can get out there and play some nickel and possibly if he plays good enough rotate in when we go to Denver. But Routt, I mean I would. But, he won't come cheap and he'll need to learn a new scheme. So no way he'll land in SD. I wish he was released before we signed Carr, but oh well, what are you gonna do.
Look for the Pats to sign him then. This is the type of thing they could pull off and somehow it won't impact their cap. l0l Edit: now he's cleared waivers. As I understand it there's no guaranteed money to pay if a team signs him. He's getting all of his salary from KC so it seems like a low risk for a team to take. Cason and Jammer combine to form arguably the worst CB tandem in the league. Routt was cut simply to prove a point... That Romeo is in charge. Just do it.
The reason he's a free agent according to Romeo is that the 'relationship' didn't progress as planned. Meaning... Romeo needed to send a message to his team that nobody's job is safe... so they'd better play their azzes off. He won't be a free agent for long. However, at season's end... it's likely Romeo will be a free agent and will never again be a head coach.
He's a good corner on a 1-7 team.. There front 7 has been garbage this year.. He still has 2 INT's this season..
If he had zero instincts as a football player he never would have received an NFL level contract in the first place.
He received an NFL level contract based on his speed. The Cryptkeeper was infatuated with it. As soon as the old man kicked the bucket, Routt was gone. Then he managed to get cut by KC in less than one season. Right now he is unemployed. So yeah, zero instincts.
