Whatever happened to Oben? Is he not a better option than Clary?

Oben's not a right tackle he's specifically a left tackle (has great foot work and hand placement but doesn't have the power to drive people off the ball and is not good at run blocking)

    Side note
Last year Tamba Hali, who the RT will match up against this week, absolutely beat the snot out of Shane Olivea. Lots of QB pressures and a sack per game against Olivea.

This year I don't think Hali played week four.

Oben has played a ton of right tackle in his career. But I don't think he's a viable starter at this stage of his career. Also, he's really our only backup left tackle. If Oben and McNeill were to both get injured, we would be completely, royally screwed.

I think were still gonna need one more good to very good o-tackle for next year and the future. Were probably gonna loose oben after this season. So were gonna need someone to push clary and Mcneil and were gonna need a good backup o-tackle.

I hope this means they're finally gonna move olivea to guard. Where he's really more suited.

    Nope.

The brother has played right tackle.

ANT is full of caca about Oben and his ability to play the LESS DEMANDING right tackle side.

I don't think Olivea is fully recovered from his back injury.

Might've been a RT but he can't do that now, he's not a good run blocker. And its not so much 'less demanding' as it requires one skill set (run blocker) more then another skill set (pass blocking)

Well, it's a little encouraging to see Norv nut up enough to make the change. Good luck to Clary. I hope that he's our answer at RT 'cuz Shane sure isn't. I dunno about him at guard, either. Put some beef & attitude there. Where's Erik Robertson right now? Bet he's hungry enough to come in & kick some butt.

This is one of the great myths about offensive lines. Right tackles don't have to be great run blockers any more than LTs do. Sure, typically, LT's oppose better pass rushers who are sometimes undersized and not as good against the run. But it's important for every member of your offensive line to run and pass block well. Right defensive ends are typically better pass rushers, but that doesn't mean that left defensive ends are better run stoppers. They are just typically crappier pass rushers.

Olivea's deficiency is lateral movement. He's got the strength and the attitude to play inside. Remember, this is the guy who imagines defenders having sex with his mother before games. He's got a mean streak.

I just watched the video blog with the writers from Union Tribune, Acee was saying, word was Clarey had a much better camp, and has been out playing Shane all season.

The salary has been what's been keeping him on the field.

    This is great news!!

Ive been wanting Olivea moved from RT for a while now. His pass blocking is simply horrendous and he is an average run blocker.

Oh and the dude who called Olivea a top 5 RT and said he would never be moved is underoath. One of the funniest things ive read in a foum was Trumpy going off on him after he submitted a video clip of Olivea getting shoved into our QB's face on a pass play and underoath was praising his recovery and Trumpy tore him a new one  Olivea was violated on that play

    It was classic.

Good thing he is running a blog now

Underoath was also the guy who was pimping AGB as the next pro-bowl OLB for us.

Dielman was a defensive lineman before he became a guard, so he had that nasty streak. Clary seems to have it too, he did a hell of a job on Suggs, and Pryce last week.

Yeah that is the incident. You remembered.

Christ sakes I could not believe anyone would defend that video and then state they were supremely confident Olivea was the ****.

The worst part is the dude went to my alma mater, Vista High, and makes the grads all look bad.

That was a classic example of a fan not knowing what the hell they were watching and then trying to pass off a glowing analysis of Shane's performance while everyone was watching Olivea getting his **** pushed in. Man oh man.

I thought a player in the NFL made your school look good, but I guess that's only if they're all-pros.
