Their sights have been set on target for a while and to think otherwise is naive.

Shopping for a new General Manager isn't like buying a carton of eggs. They can't just go to the grocery store and purchase one at the cashier. It takes time.

Again, nobody's saying he is or advocating that he just sits on his *** and does nothing.

Marc Ross, director of player personnel of the Giatns, will get an interview from the Chargers. So, thats 6.

Apparently we have scheduled interviews with Andy Reid & Lovie Smith. Reid makes sense, cause he has a GM in place, not very good one, but he has one. Smith on the other hand does not. So, all these rumors I think are completely false, because Spanos & Wolf stressed the GM will pick his head coach.

I'd be down with Lovie Smith. Hope Reid goes to Arizona rather than KC.

I doubt wolf came on board Dec. 31st. without prior meetings to make a "shopping list of eggs". Goose, duck or chicken had already been discussed and their collective odds on favorite has been circled, bolden and underscored. The rest of the show is going on to appease the NFL and set up diversion so as not to tip their hand. If you think otherwise, I feel sorry for you.

I know this is late, but I think Rex Ryan is a great coach. Just look at the talent he had when he first arrived there, and then players significantly regressed, and also talent left the team, and poor drafting. The one thing I will blame Ryan for is the hiring of Sparano and also his team getting out of hand speaking out and fighting each other.

Then Tebow was brought in, to use in Sparano's system. I believe that was fully Tannenbaum's move because he thought Tebow could run the wildcat, and also put fans in the stands and sell jerseys to make him look like a genius.

At the end of the day, Rex still took them to the AFC Championship game twice in his first two years there, I think we're all aware of what the Jets did to us in '09.

So, they made their shopping list. The actual purchase is what takes time.

Funny thing about contracts, both sides have to agree.

I think Rex is a great Defensive Coordinator, just as Norv is a great OC. They're both average HC's. Only Norv continues to get respect from his players, while Rex appears to lose it from his as time goes by. Rex reminds me of a vulgar Marty Schottenheimer. While Marty wore his players out with a "...Gleem"...

Rex wears them down with his delusions of grandeur and a whole bunch of cursing.

It gets old... it got old... and they folded.

And now he's being force fed to whomever the new GM is???

    If that's true... it's a hot mess.

Even funnier is to believe backroom deals have never been done in the NFL.

Still, that game shouldn't even had been that close where 3 FG's made the difference. Shonne Green, a rookie, shouldn't have beaten us.

What difference does it make that he was a rookie? RGIII and Luck are rookies, and they play at a position that usually takes much longer to master than RB.

Plenty of rookie RBs come into the league and produce right away..... Ryan Mathews being an exception. ;)

Chargers interview Tom Telesco for GM

The search for the next Chargers general manager turns to Indianapolis.

A candidate for their head coach opening is there, too.

San Diego's interview team is set to speak with Tom Telesco, Colts vice president of football operations. He is one of six known candidates to fill the GM spot vacated Monday with A.J. Smith's firing.

Telesco is in his 15th season with the Colts and first in his current position. He previously served as director of player personnel for six seasons before a 2012 promotion.

The 40-year-old has been a top adviser to general manager Ryan Grigson, together leading a personnel overhaul that's seen the team improve from the NFL's worst record in 2011 (2-14) to a Sunday playoff appearance in Baltimore.

While hiring a general manager is the Chargers' first order of business, there is believed to be mutual interest between the organization and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in a future interview for the head coach position. As of Thursday, no interview between the sides was scheduled, a source said, while the Bears are expected to interview him next week.

No interview is permitted before the playoff game.

Arians, 60, was the Colts' interim head coach for most this season while Chuck Pagano, the older brother of Chargers Defensive Coordinator John Pagano, battled leukemia. If Arians was hired, it is believed John Pagano would be retained in his current coordinator position.

Arians went 9-3 as interim head coach.

The Chargers, as a team, certainly did not perform up to their ability that day.

That said, if the most accurate kicker of all time makes his usual 3 for 3, Chargers win.
If the most accurate kicker of all time merely makes 2 of 3, the Chargers win.
If the most accurate kicker of all time simply converts a lousy 1 of 3, then we have a tie, and overtime.
It requires the most accurate kicker of all time having his worst day as a pro, to get to 0 for 3,
end an 11 game winning streak, and the Super Bowl hopes of the hottest team in the league at that point.

Most teams (not the Chargers) would've cut his *** after a playoff disaster like that. Better late than never, I guess.

Totally agree, but we still didn't show up on offense or defense. That was not a very good performance from Rivers either..

But a guy who had average 8 attempts a game in '09, and had 1 100 yard rushing game all season, to go to San Diego on the road against a good defense, was embarrassing.

Actually it was purely a Woody Johnson (their owner) move because he wanted something to keep the media spotlight on the Jets after the other team in NY had just won another Lombardi trophy. It's fairly evident that Rex didn't want Tebow and I'm not even sure you could say Sparano did either.

The Jets are pretty screwed anyway. Tannenbaum (again, largely because of demands put on him by Johnson) effectively leveraged the future of the team for a better championship window in the now... and for all intents and purposes crapped out. They were constantly giving players extensions and then restructuring the deals a year or two later in order to divert cap hits to a later pay schedule. Problem is that does little to motivate a player whose primary motivation is money, and you end up with crap on your roster eating up huge cap space that doesn't even have trade value like Mark Sanchez and Calvin Pace and so on and so forth. This mortgaging for the future also occurred with regard to their draft picks (trading up to get Sanchez, trading a 2nd for Cromartie, a 5th for malcontent Santonio Holmes)... they effectively painted themselves into a corner where they had so few picks in most years that they had to hit on every single one of them in order to account for turnover of starters and depth that were lost to free agency/retirement from year to year. And they didn't hit on even 2/3 of them.

Five teams are currently looking for General Managers. Five days after the 2012 regular season ended, a loose sense is emerging as to how things will fall together.

Here’s the quick summary, as it’s currently making the rounds in league circles.

    1. The Jets are expected to hire 49ers exec Tom Gamble (pictured).

    2. The Jaguars are expected to hire Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell.

    3. The Chiefs are expected to hire Packers director of operations John Dorsey.

    4. The Cardinals are expected to promote Steve Keim.

    5. The Panthers are believed to be leaning toward Giants executive Dave Gettleman.

None of these moves are, you know, 95-percent certain. It’s simply where it all is leaning

Yeah, well don't break the eggs on the way home. Dean searched the country over until he ended up in his own backyard. He still has no huevos and these things take time and are fragile.

Perhaps the Chargers should just try to get a special teams coach first, then the rest will fall into place...

The Chargers interviewed Colts VP of Football Operations Tom Telesco for their GM vacancy on Friday.
Chargers brass is reportedly now headed to New York, "presumably" for an interview with Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross. Despite being a holdover from the Polian Era, Telesco earned a promotion last offseason from rookie GM Ryan Grigson. Telesco is a respected talent evaluator around the NFL.
