Deano should be going over the plethora of self proclaimed experts right here on this MB, can't miss if you just ask them.
True, but I'm sure an NFL job as intriguing as the Chargers' is could lure him. Heck, San Fran lured Harbaugh after a 4-12 (I believe) season. We already have 4 wins! I love the way his Stanford teams play.. Hard, Physical, and Smart. And they just held an explosive, and to me, overrated Oregon-Chip Kelly offense to 14 points.. Lowest they scored in any game was 41 points before last night..
Cross Holmgren off the list http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/e...-holmgren-would-only-coach-for-dallas-cowboys
Bradley from PSU - it's a big story here in PA that he won't commit to another year publicly. AJ stays because they want the Spanos kid to GM after AJ is gone and he's not ready. What GM wants to come in when they're holding position for owner's son?
And somewhere in a dark room of Chargers HQ, a slide projector is running, and several voices can be heard: Voice A: "What about this guy? He has 15 years of head coaching experience." Voice B: "No, I don't like him, don't like the way he wears his headphones on the sidelines." Voice A: "Okay, next slide, what about this former head coach? He has coached two different teams to Super Bowls." Voice N: "No, I don't like him! He has shifty eyes and gives the press a hard time, he's too blunt!" Voice A: "Norv, what are you doing in here, we said this was a private meeting..."
Who we get for a coach, I hope to heck that he is not some flat tire retread like Shottenheimer and Turner... I did not like Marty because Martyball never (anywhere he coached) ever won a post season game. I shuddered at the choice of Nervous Norv because of his being fired several times and having a losing record. You hire a losing retread and you will just get another losing team. The Ghost of Al Davis would be laughing at the Chargers if the Raiders were not falling on their faces too!
Actually, it won 5 post season games. Perhaps you meant Super Bowls. Or maybe you meant more often than not it didn't win playoff games?
I'n getting worried about all this Chucky talk, although he does make some pretty cool faces down on the sideline.
For a lot of people that will be enough. Part of the Norv hatred, at least early on before the team completely went to sh*t, was that he's too mild, no passion, etc. Let's face it, most people don't know enough about football to even really know why they don't like a coach. But if they have a guy that sounds good a press conference and makes mean faces now and then, they will be happy. Plus Gruden is a name, so a lot of people will be happy just because of that.
You and me both. He gets credit for "assembling" the last great Raiders team, when in reality it's not like the Raiders have ever been devoid of talent, they're just a constant cluster-youknowwat because Al didn't have the patience to stick with a regime long enough to establish any kind of consistency or positive culture. But they were chock full of uber-athletes and height/weight/speed guys before it was even trendy; what's being overlooked is that Gruden had a more than competent and cagey, veteran QB in Gannon (something the Raiders still haven't had since) and a damn good OL. In Tampa, Bruce Allen (GM) and Monte Kiffin flat out carried Gruden every year following. Replacing Norv with Gruden would be like akin to bring in another Norv - except one that's slightly more eloquent (or at least wordy) and animated. All those complaints people have about Norv, you can also attribute to Gruden: He took a consistently playoff-caliber team and turned them into an underachieving, soft hunk of crap. He played favoritism with so many older vets and refused to give the younger guys even competition for an opportunity to prove themselves. Once the guys that built Kiffin's defense (Sapp, Lynch, Barber, Brooks, Rice) all either retired, left in FA, or started to fall off the entire team turned to shlep. Does him having a Super Bowl ring, won with a team that Tony Dungy and Monte Kiffin built for him, really give him that much street cred? But! As Lizard pointed out, he's got name recognition with the common fan, and "names" sell tickets and television views (sad as it is to say), which is what Dean cares more about than being competitive (as long as we're just competitive enough that his bottom line doesn't suffer). My only solace is that I'm pretty sure ABC/ESPN just signed Gruden to an extension the offseason before this last one, so he's going to be pricey as hell to buy-out and then will likely demand a pretty substantial contract in his own right. That will hopefully price him out of Dean's comfort zone.
Jay Gruden is going no where, he's happy in Cincinnati hence why he signed on for another year and don't think cincy doesn't like him for what he's done for us, we will keep him here as for his brother, it's already a born conclusion he's going to be with the Razorbacks, as far as I know he'll be a razorback highest paid coach as well
Dont kno if it translates to any canidates for us, but alot of College teams are lookin to retool their coaching staffs. IMO that means whoever we would LOVE to get in here, will take a big flagship job for a College team instead.
that would have meant that Spanos wants a team to win, he is more worried about the money he would lose by firing Norv.
http://www.yardbarker.com/college_f...s_miles_as_coach_made_him_huge_offer/12309526 Well why would a good coach come up from the college ranks if they are making this kind of money?
