Giles costs the Padres a shot at a run and Bud Black has no balls!

Raul Ibanez, who signed a three-year, $31.5 million free-agent contract, is the reason the Phillies don't miss Pat Burrell. He is hitting .385 with five home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs.

    Brian Giles?

    avg hr rbi obp slg
    .151 0 7 .211 .189

    $9,000,000

    We could sign that guy?

    and cut Giles?

At the very least he needs to be moved down in the line up.

Giles would have cost the Padres 5 million to cut him, so it doesn't quite work out so evenly.

If his buyout wasn't so much he wouldn't even be on the team right now. (And neither would Ibanez)

Giles was past his prime when he got off the Juice. He has lost a few lbs, his arms and legs are not those bull type he had before.

Dude is done and can't hit his own *** with either had.

This reeks of the Randy Meyers deal from a few years back

    Totally agree.

Gotta give it to him. He got somebody to pay him.

    It's the American way

At least his very good OBP and high number of walks made him useful up until this year.

If nothing else, he still has good D in RF. (Not that much of an arm, but his range is excellent.)

That's not enough to warrant keeping him in the line up if this futility continues, though. I'm simply finding a silver lining.

    It looks like it now.

But, unlike Meyers, Giles gave us some quality years. (Even if they weren't quite as good as we expected.)

true, I guess ownership figured he was worth the risk. Maybe he turns it around when the weather warms.

I hope we stay in the hunt until then

In the meantime, I wish they'd at least quit batting him 3rd.

    Giles had a great game.

Let's hope he keeps it up and not what he's been doing pretty much all season before today.
