Grow some ears old man, I told you we have a priority system that takes care of critical patients first.

Waiting for services in Canada is an understood pay off for its citizens. According to the Fraser Institute, a Vancouver, B.C.-based think tank, in their annual Waiting List Survey, the average waiting time between a referral from a general practitioner to treatment went up 90% from 9.3 weeks in 1993 to 17.7 weeks in 2003 (Pipes) . This ranged from an average of 30 weeks in Saskatchewan to 14 weeks in Ontario. These long waits also exist for diagnostic procedures such as ultrasounds, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The average time waited for these practices were between two and 24 weeks (Williams). The usual time one can expect to wait for a medical oncology if they have cancer increased from 2.5 weeks to 6.1 and for a radiation oncology from 5.3 to 8.1 weeks over the 10 year period (Pipes). Waits like this have led to deaths, says Kerri Houston of the Frontiers of Freedom Institute in her article “Access Denied: Canada’s Health Care System Turns Patients Into Victims.”

Houston says that hip-replacement patients often end up non-ambulatory while waiting an average of 20 weeks for the procedure, and that's after having waited 13 weeks just to see the specialist. The wait to get diagnostic scans followed by the wait for the radiologist to read them just might explain why Cleveland, Ohio, has become Canada's hip-replacement center. (Williams)

    and

According to a story in Canada News, 10,000 doctors left Canada in the 90s. This is even a bigger problem because there are not as many medical school graduates. Ontario has had to take the step of creating more positions for nurses that would take the place of a doctor (Williams). Being an employee of the government and not working for-profit, doctors may not want to be practicing in Canada. This problem may also tie in with the increased amount of time on waiting lists.

maybe you outa get your head out of the sand

KMA that is one stupid institute in western canada doing a survey. It is well documented that your health care system is dogcrap.

CT Scans and MRIs are long waits. I actually had a CT scan late 2007 and the physician got me scanned within 3 weeks. The other option is paying money to get it done at a private clinic. That's two options right there so SMD while your country has one option: pay or don't get treatment. There is nothing wrong with waiting an extra week or two for a CT scan for those who can't pay for private scans and if the physician believes the case is critical he can call the place to move you up on the waiting list. You and that article are both talking out of your asses.

The x-ray clinics here are also outstanding and most of our immunizations are free. If you need to be hospitalized you will get free food and be taken care of.

The problem here isn't the system, the system is outstanding. The problem is the shortage of doctors.

Because our doctors must be extremely well prepared to practice medicine and we don't let crappy physicians slip through the system, add to that the fact that there haven't been a great many doctors here in the first place and that the conservative government is not doing anything to help the problem and that we are accepting more immigrants than ever into Canada and that the baby boomers are in need of more health care than ever and we lack a young population compared to most other top countries and that explains it. I am not going to discuss this anymore because it doesn't belong here but grampa had to bring up health care in this thread and start an anti-canadian tirade.

Gary Bruce Bettman (born on June 2, 1952 in Queens, New York) is the commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), a post he has held since February 1, 1993. Previously, Bettman was a senior vice-president and general counsel to the National Basketball Association (NBA).

That's where he honed his corruption abilities.

Bettman has also been at the middle of much controversy. Bettman has often been criticized for attempting to "Americanize" the game, and has been a central figure of two labor stoppages, including the 2004–05 NHL lockout that saw the entire season canceled.

Bettman has also been accused of having an "anti-Canadian" agenda, with critics citing the relocation of the franchises in Quebec City and Winnipeg and his apparent refusal to help stop it, along with the aborted sale of the Nashville Predators in 2007 to interests that would have moved the team to Hamilton, Ontario. Jim Balsillie accused Bettman of forcing the Predators to end negotiations with him to purchase the team. Bettman was satirized in this vein as the character "Gary Buttman" in the 2006 Canadian movie Bon Cop, Bad Cop.

I understand the need to market the NHL to the US, to a point. The money in advertising revenue must be bigger in the US. But not if it jeopardizes the fan loyalty of Canadian teams. They are after all part of the fabric of the NHL

What a pathetic series. The fans are a disgrace to the game. Detroit couldn't even sell out their games.

IMHO, nothing beats Canada's CBC's coverage - hockey people bringing you hockey coverage. NBC or whomever is covering the Cup finals can take a flying leap.

Don't get me started on Bettman. If you cannot say anything good...

"People of Nashville, accept it, you're not a hockey town. Your team is a mess, one of your owners is going to prison, and Gary TheJackoff Bettman, forced your original owner to accept 27 million less than Balsille was offering in an effort to keep the game from getting stronger in Canada. Bettman doesn't support Nashville, he's more than happy to let Boots take the team to Kansas City, as long as it's in the USA. Bettman is the worst thing to ever happen to hockey, and he should be shot for trying to ruin CANADA'S game!"
