So would the rules braniacs answer a question for me? Tim Dobbins was fined 50k for this hit. The ruling on the field was offsetting penalties, Cutler threw an illegal forward pass beyond the LoS and Dobbins for the shot to the head. My understanding is that as soon as Cutler crosses the LoS he is a running back and all head shot crap is thrown out unless he slides. First, how can those be offsetting penalties if the first penalty basically negates the second one because he became a RB once crossing the line, and second, how can you fine someone for hitting him in the head when he is a RB past the LoS? Seems to me like running backs get hit in the head about 20 times a game and no fines are levied.
Yah, i'm wondering if they are calling him a defenseless player because he was in the act of throwing, but by that thinking, any time one of our RB's is crossing the LoS they could flash the ball like they are throwing and if they get hit in the head it would be a penalty. Seems like BS to me, and not just because I love seeing Cutler get blown up, especially by Dobbins who I still love. (See pic of me and crazy Tim Dobbns)
Hits to the head are technically not allowed in any situation. That play had a big impact on the outcome of the game. Cutler is still a punk.
From the film clip, it looks like Dobbins helmet sort of slid into Cutler's helmet with an abrupt stop. These refs had it all wrong...
"I don't often want a player to get lit up... put when I do, I prefer that it's Jay Cutler. Stay aggressive my friends." Cutler wasn't sliding and he wasn't defenseless. He just didn't look up and see Dobbins right smack in his face. Keep your head up Jay or these type of things can happen.
