Norv didn't miss the tackles, drop the interceptions or fumble the ball. Guys are in a position to score, stop plays early or get turnovers enough to decide games in our favor. Norval and Rivera get us there often enough to win. The players themselves have said as much. Plenty of us have been screaming for D and O beef for a while. What we got instead was likes of Buster Davis, Hester, Johnson and Tolbert. Somewhat useful at best, but nowhere near as valuable as linemen. If we were going to trade up for someone, a lineman would have been a better choice. Martin and Vasquez will no doubt provide value down the road, but we needed their likes two drafts ago. It all starts up front, on both sides of th ball, and so far AJ hasn't brought those guys in often enough or early enough. You don't assess needs after guys begin to fade, you assess them based on their age at the time you enter the current draft. All GM's have a blind spot or two. AJ's appears to be the lines. McNeil not withstanding. Everyone we have playing from the center on over to the right are career backups. Maybe I'll be proved wrong as the season progresses, but that's what it looks like right now-and right now we don't have the personnel for a 3-4 defense, either.
Show the stats. You always do this. Go on an over emotional rant, and show that you are completly incapable of backing up your statements. Show us the stats that back your position. You said he is below average. Show us. Give us the winning percentage as a Chargers head coach, show us his post season record, and give us numbers to back your statement.
