The San Diego Chargers have no decision to make at quarterback. Drew Brees just made it for them ... as he did a year ago when he led the club to the playoffs as a lame-duck employee. There are no more mysteries about Brees; the guy's a franchise quarterback who's perfect for the Chargers. In the best game of his career Sunday, he hit 17 of his first 18 passes, with his only incompletion a drop by tight end Antonio Gates. Brees wound up missing only five of 33 attempts, with one drop and two intentional throwaways, and that's the kind of play you want from your starter. I don't care how promising Philip Rivers is; he doesn't supplant this guy. If I'm A.J. Smith, general manager of the Chargers, I start talking to Brees about a multiyear contract and start talking to Rivers about a change of address.</blockquote>
