For me it is winning the superbowl! Anything less I think would be a loosing season.
    So...with that said:

What happens to AJ Smith if we don't win it all?

So, if the Chargers finish the season 15-1 and make it to the Super Bowl but lose in the waning seconds of a 42-41 show down you're going to can AJ Smith if you're Dean Spanos?

Sounds like Lot bargaining with God over Sodom and Gomorrah.

I don't think AJ's going anywhere even if we don't win the big one this year. Just my $.02 worth.

Yep A.J. isn't going anywhere, regradless of the record or a championship. as far as a winning season goes....as simple as LV said "more wins than losses" I remember when we went 9-7 and won the division....we could have been AFC west champs at 8-8 too ...and NOT had a winning season.

Don't be so literal... Even Loren and Ray are getting tires of AJ smith. What is the purpose of a Pro football team? Win the divison? No. Win the championship game? No. Its win the Superbowl....Right?

With that said look at the Saints and what they have done in 5 years. How long has AJ had...7 to 8? How long do we give him?

And with this VJ and McNeil fiasco it seems that AJ's ego is more important then Winning.

I wasn't being literal just actually trying to make light of the fact that a team can be successful and not truly be a "winning team" Dean loves A.J. he is more than happy to let him drive the bus right off a cliff if that's what it takes to brush his ego. John Butler turned this team around and smith rode his coattails for all it was worth. now that the last of the butler guys are gone (Nix) around him, aj has no one left to blame but himself for not making a true run at the bowl but as i said dean won't get rid of him no matter what the outcome....IMO

But what do you expect to happen if we can him? Do you think some new GM is going to waltz in and win the Super Bowl the next year?

AJ has this team in the playoffs every year. Once you get there anything can happen. One play goes differently last year and it's a Colts/Vikings Super Bowl and the Saints are still looking for theirs.

          I totally agree

I just feel like it should be our time and we should pay the guys and ride there coat tails.

The problem is that sets poor precedent for future negotiations. If he shows he's willing to cave to strong arm tactics players know they don't have to wait in line like everyone else when they can just threaten to hold out.

VJ and MM are being greedy. Both were offered significant raises and AJ has shown time and time again that he's willing to pay his players, they just have to wait in line and not try and force his hand like those two have done.
