Who are these players and what have they done with the real Padres?

Clearly you do not follow the Padres as much as you like to pretend.

Grady Fuson and Sandy Alderson have been in charge of the draft for 5 years now.

What does that have to do with your assertion that Towers needs to be fired due to who we've drafted over the past 5 years?

You're making the common mistake of applying football logic to baseball tactics.

Why the sudden faith in Depodesta?

Because he's a former GM in our system?

You are the one who made the assertion that he's a good GM due to the Dodgers' current youth movement.

Yet, when posed with the question of whether or not he's responsible for bringing in said youth, you responded with an insinuation that Sandy and Grady aren't good at their job instead of telling me how good Depodesta could be.

I only insinuated it because you asserted that Towers is responsible for the draft despite the fact that he hasn't been in 5 years.

John Moores is the OWNER of the team.

Are you asking him to fire himself?

That's like asking Alex Spanos to be fired.

I agree, the current roster is a joke.

But the rosters prior to this year haven't been that bad.

Which is why I'm willing to give the FO a mulligan.

    Why?

I'm not entirely opposed to a change in GM, but Towers is still the same guy who brought in Adrian and Chris young for Adam Eaton and Aki Osuka, as well as Cla Meredith and Josh Bard for Doug Mirabelli. (Which may not seem like much now, but was gold for us the previous two years.)

    I've never disputed that fact.

None of that negates the fact that Fuson is in charge of the draft.

Kevin Towers "signs off on it", sure, but that's only due to his job title.

The powers that be saw what a horrible job KT was doing with the draft and removed him from that portion of his responsibilities.

Since then the Padres farm system has moved up from one of the worst to middle of the pack.

    Coincidence?

Never said he wasn't involved in it whatsoever, but he's also not the one doing the drafting.

This is an indisputable fact and I can't believe it's taken more than one response to debate it.

    Oh, I get it.

You're going with the "The record stinks, let's blindly get rid of everyone without putting much thought into it" mentality.

Everyone in the FO has some iota of "responsibility" to everything therefore they need to go?

If not for John Moores we would be debating the Washington Senators right now.

Nice to know you can predict the future.

Are the Chargers at least going to win a Super Bowl soon?

And, if so, which one is it? :abq2:

I agree, but at the same time Antonelli's struggles in Portland make me a tad weery of rushing anyone.

They're definitely looking like the real deal thus far, though.

On a side note, it looks like that incompitent fool Kevin Towers may have found another diamond in the rough.

And speaking of Kevin Towers' incompetence, he's also the one that traded for Will Inman last year.

    Fair enough.

We're only just now starting to get to the point where we might start seeing some of that, though.

If you want to go by technicalities, sure, but that still doesn't negate the fact that he's not the one drafting.

    And replace him with who?

Kevin Towers has a track record of being able to find good pitching out of nowhere and making good trades.

I wouldn't be willing to get rid of him unless someone even better can be had in his place.

The ridiculous beer prices notwithstanding, this is the first year since PetCo has opened that we've had a ****** team.

While I certainly hope the first portion of your statement is true you can't say that with any certainty any more than you can say the latter portion of your statement with any certainty.

The only thing we can say with any certainty is that it's been 14 years since the Chargers have been to the Super Bowl and only 10 since the Padres have been to the World Series.

Would you be saying this if his name was Joseph McShingly?

Just remember Kevin Towers is ultimately responsible for all these prospects you're suddenly clammoring over ;)

And then will you start asking to fire Depodesta should the Padres have another bum year?

No kidding, may as well go for the #1 overall since we suck this year.

I assume he's a highly touted draft pick expected to go there next year?

I just hope he doesn't have the same injury luck as Mark Prior. (who also has a nice and easy delivery, unlike Jake Peavy.)
