I can't figure out why the Chargers would even consider trading linebacker Donnie Edwards. While Shawne Merriman has rightfully received more attention, it is Edwards and nose tackle Jamal Williams who are the glue that holds the defense together.
But general manager A.J. Smith during the offseason treated Edwards, who has led the Chargers in tackles in each of the four years he has been in San Diego, like a second-class citizen. Smith put him on the trading block, letting Edwards know that there would be no contract extension after this year.</blockquote>
