Chargers rookie says people are about to find out
Mike Willie knows many fans don't know his name yet.

The undrafted Chargers rookie wide receiver wants that to change, starting Thursday night.

Willie will be among the reserves to take the field during the team's preseason opener against the Packers at Qualcomm Stadium. The 5 p.m. game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN, providing a fitting platform for Willie's planned debut.

Every year, an undrafted rookie seems to come out of nowhere, emerging in the preseason.

    Willie says that'll be him.

“Oh yeah,” he said Wednesday. “Guaranteed. Guaranteed. I'll get noticed after I make these catches, make big catches, make more than a few catches. I think it'll be great for the team and just for the whole program. Show them what I got.”

Willie, who's 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, signed with the Chargers in April out of Arizona State. He stood out in the spring but missed an early chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old had moderate production in two years with the Sundevils, including 36 catches, 455 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.

Confidence isn't an issue for Willie, who wears No. 83.

“You've got to be confident,” he said. “When stuff goes bad, … that's what gets me to the next play. ... I'm pumped. Watch. I'm pumped up. Ready to make some plays Thursday. We'll see how it goes."
