SAN DIEGO ---- Linebacker Steve Foley searched for the right words. Much like the Chargers' season, he started slow, built up speed and sputtered at the end.

"When we came in this year one of the coaches ---- he had been on a championship team ---- said that top to bottom we had far more talent than that championship team did,'' Foley said.

But all that skill got the Chargers squat. For the ninth time in 10 years, they aren't a party to the Super Bowl tournament, instead wallowing in their super disappointment of a 9-7 finish.</blockquote>
