@RapSheet: Wiz bringing his guys over from #Cardinals MT @SI_PeterKing: Looks like the Chargers are going to hire Frank Reich as QB coach.
I thought this deserved its own thread, as Reich's career in Arizona can hardly be considered a success. Not that I'm happy about what Ramsdell has done here either. I hope we don't bring Russ Grimm as well.
If Michelangelo had carved his statue of David out of a giant block of **** instead of a giant block of granite (which I've seen, btw, totally awesome and worth seeing if you can make it to Florence), it would still have been a giant block of ****. Arizona hasn't had a decent QB on the roster since Warner retired. I think most would contend that they haven't had a QB actually capable of being an NFL starter since Warner retired.
Indianapolis Colts (2008) (Offensive Coaching Staff Assistant)Indianapolis Colts (2009–2010) (Quarterbacks Coach)Indianapolis Colts (2011) (Wide Receivers Coach)Arizona Cardinals (2012) (Wide Receivers Coach)San Diego Chargers (2013-present) (Quarterbacks Coach) As a WR coach in AZ I think its safe to say he helped do his job with Fitz and Roberts, as a QB coach under Peyton Manning well that goes without saying, Manning is Manning. I think he'll help with Rivers just fine
I was thinking the other day that who ever Whisenhunt brings in as his QB coach or offensive assistant would have to be considered to be heir apparent to Whis to take over OC duties if Whis is one and done
I'm sure Frank will be a better QB Coach than the one we had last year. Which was NOBODY! I like this because we have someone now to hopefully push Philip.
The Bills QB Frank Reich? I remember that dude. He played in one of the best games against the Oilers. He was a WR coach? That doesn't make sense?
Reich... I like it. Good experience plying behind Kelley, worked with Peyton in Indy, I believe... Should have good experience to pass on to Rivers. I am rally liking the vibe of this regeim in Chargers Park.
it DOES make sense if you are working towards one day being an OC. You have to have practice experience with all facets. Besides who better to tell a WR that they are not running the routes correctly than a QB?
Might as well bring in Earl Campbell to coach the Oline then. He can tell them how to open the holes.
And what about Belichick? Dude played Center and TE in college. He was the captain of the LaCrosse team. He played Squash! None of that sounds like he played coach before. Fire him now!
I agree on both points (the David being amazing in person and there being absolutely no decent QBs in AZ since Warner retired). Let's not forget that he also coached up Steve Breaston, who before floundering in KC, did a decent job lining up opposite of Fitz a few years back.
At least Reich played the position....... he should be able to see if Rivers's is doing something wrong mechanically (other than throwing that weird way).
Evidently Whiz and Grimm are not on good terms any longer because Whiz made promises to Grimm for increased responsibility and influence that Russ never got, mostly because Ken went somewhat control freak trying to keep his damn job. So I won't expect Grimm; though he really wasn't as much the problem in Zona as the fact that like us they hadn't spent a Top 100 pick on OL but once in Rod Graves' entire tenure as GM. Reich's not a bad hire at all. At the very least we stand a good chance to see some 1990's Buffalo hurry-up offense out of Rivers - no more GD delay of game penalties right and left (thank you based god!).
And for the record. Reich was Zona's Wide Receivers coach, not their QB coach (that was John McNulty in 2012 and Chris Miller prior to that).
After a throwing a pick or fumbling, when PR would go back to the sideline, it always looked like he was doing a lot more talking at Turner than listening and taking criticism. If that is indeed the case, I hope Philip listens more to Reich than he did Turner in those situations.
Campbell didn't need an O-line, he made his own holes. The only way Reich makes sense is if he's better than Ramsdale IMHO.
That was the craziest playoff game ever. I remember being bummed about how boring the 2nd half was going to be. And then the Bills backup QB brought them back. I think that game was the death knell of the run & shoot.
I'm too lazy to look it up, but is Dishman still under contract and is the guy ever going to make it past being an asst.?
