    OAKLAND ---- Philip Rivers, with plenty of help from his friends, had a gentle baptism under fire Monday night in his first NFL start.

    Much will be said and written about Rivers' performance in the Chargers' rather easy 27-0 victory over the Raiders.

    But it was the total team effort that made Rivers' coming out party so successful.</blockquote>
