http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/559767/rss What do you all think? I believe he's more of a project right now than a guy we can line up on the field. Who knows, he might be a huge help later this season.
I think it's nice to show off in OTAs but we won't know if he's a steal until we see him play in real games.
Over the past few years we've had a handful of guys who looked great during the off/pre-season. Welker anyone? But they never seem to make the cut for regular season. Maybe with Jackson's absence this one will stick.
I don't know how doing well in the OTA's and impressing the coaches equals showing off but to each his own.
I didn't mean "showing off" in the sense of showboating. I simply meant it as a synonym to doing well. Sorry for the confusion.
For every Wes Welker there's 10 guys whose names I don't even remember because they're either out of football or are on someone else's practice squad now.
So far so good on Williams, and yeah I wonder how he wasn't drafted as well considering alot of teams really needed receiver help. But there loss is our gain, as it was with Floyd, Osgood and Jackson
I view him as the equivalent of having had another 3rd round or 4th round draft pick in the most recent draft. I'm not expecting an immediate contribution from him, just like I'm not expecting any from Butler (3rd) or Stuckey (4th). Bottom line.... Williams can play. .
Welker was released because the coaches and AJ thought we needed a Safety by the name of Clinton Hart instead of Welker. big oops Floyd's still with us Osgood left because he couldn't crack the WR depth chart Camarillo was average at best
were gonna need another good wr this year or definetly next year if jackson leaves. The chargers are obviously looking hard for that guy right now.
At least Williams already catches with his hands instead of his body. That was one of the big issues that VJ had to overcome. Not saying that Williams is the answer to VJ holding out, but I do think that he's a better receiver at this point in his career than VJ was.
Obviously not every player in this position is going to end up in the ProBowl. But there are probably plenty of guys who might have contributed but didn't get an opportunity because of player limits. Our scouts seem to have found free agent WRs who standout each preseason. Would be interesting to see how one of these guys pans out in the regular season.
Why would that even matter? The point is the Chargers are good at finding gems in the UDFA WR class. Whether they stick on the roster is up to the coaches and at times it comes down to the player (Osgood, although he was here for a while).
