Charlie Whitehurst will give Billy Volek a stiff challenge for the top reserve spot behind Philip Rivers. As a rookie, Whitehurst impressed during the offseason by showing a strong arm and poise in the pocket. Now, with a year’s worth of learning under his belt, he appears primed to fight for the No. 2 spot. Unseating Volek will be no easy task, as the former Tennessee Titan has 10 starts, 3,509 passing yards and 26 touchdowns under his belt. at least because of possible injuries a team needs to have three QBs. It doesn't matter when Nr. 2 and Nr. 3 are in good shape and make a strong competition. Most important Nr.1 shows no weakness, and Philip Rivers will not.
This is going to be the fun battle to watch in the pre-season games. Both QB's rock. If there is anything I want to key on is watching these two QB's duke it out. Volek will more than likely be gone as a free agent in 2008 so may as well enjoy it while it lasts.
