With pre-season games starting next week, I know its a little early, but let's do this for fun. Hopefully there will be no Laurent Robinson's this year or in our case Bryan Walters', My Final 53.. QB - Rivers, Whitehurst RB - Mathews, Brown, Battle FB - McClain, Hester WR - Meachem, Floyd, Royal, Brown, Parrish TE - Gates, Green, McMichael, Rosario LT - Gaither, Henderson LG - Green, Hadnot C - Hardwick, Molk RG - Vasquez, Schilling RT - Clary, Harris DE - Martin, Liuget, Cesaire, Reyes NT - Garay, Franklin, Thomas OLB - Phillips, Ingram, Johnson, English, Barnes ILB - Spikes, Butler, Mouton, Williams, Gachkar CB - Jammer, Cason, Gilchrist, Wright FS - Weddle SS - Stuckey, Taylor LS - Windt K - Kaeding P - Scifres PS - QB - Lee RB - Baker, Hayes WR - Embree OL - Bryant DL - Harrell, Brown ILB - Gamble CB - Pressley S - Cattouse something like that!
Bucks right, Dombrowski will miss some time which could lead to the I.R. also: Spurlock is a vet, he can't go on the practice squad, Gachkar also since he was activated in games last year (same reason why we couldn't keep TuTu last year on the P.s.) I see them keeping 4 TE's so insert Rosario up there insert OT Mike Harris in there as well Also reports suggesting Stuckey, English and Cesaire (with the addition of Franklin, having Garay able to play NT and DE) could be on the outside looking in. I'll just put from yours who I think is safe and leave the remaining spots open for who ever shows up during camp QB - 1. Phillip Rivers, 2. Charlie Whitehurst RB - 3. Ryan Mathews, 4. Ronnie Brown, 5. Jackie Battle FB - 6. Le'Ron McClain, 7. Jacob Hester WR - 8. Robert Meachem, 9. Malcolm Floyd, 10. Eddie Royal, 11. Vincent Brown, 12. Roscoe Parrish TE - 13. Antonio Gates, 14.Randy McMichael 15. Dante Rosario, 16. Ladarius Green, T - 17. Jared Gaither, 18. Jeromey Clary,19. Mario Henderson, 20. Mike Harris G - 21. Tyronne Green, 22. Louis Vasquez, 23. Stephen Schilling, 24. Rex Hadnot C - 25. Nick Hardwick, 26. David Molk DE - 27. Vaughn Martin, 28. Corey Liuget, 29. Kendall Reyes DT - 30. Antonio Garay, 31. Aubrayo Franklin, 32.Cam Thomas LB - 33. Shaun Phillips, 34. Melvin Ingram, 35. Jarret Johnson, 36. Antwan Barnes, 37. Takeo Spikes, 38. Donald Butler, 39. Jonas Mouton, 40. Demorrio Williams CB - 41. Quentin Jammer, 42. Antoine Cason, 43. Marcus Gilchrist, 44. Shareece Wright FS - 45. Eric Weddle, SS - 46. Atari Bigby 47. Brandon Taylor LS - 48. Mike Windt K - 49. Nate Kaeding P - 50. Mike Scifres so that leaves 3 spots open look for them to bring in another CB and maybe a couple of other spots when teams start making cuts. and if Hayes is as good as reports are saying he is it'll be real hard for them to not keep 4 RB's
I don't think Ronnie Brown is a roster lock, and I don't think that both Battle and Hester are making the roster. Baxter and Molk won't both make the roster, and I doubt Demorrio Williams will be on the roster.
Been to a couple of practices, just from a little observation, this is what I see: QB - 1. Phillip Rivers, 2. Charlie Whitehurst RB - 3. Ryan Mathews, 4. Ronnie Brown, 5. Jackie Battle FB - 6. Le'Ron McClain, 7. Jacob Hester WR - 8. Robert Meachem, 9. Malcolm Floyd, 10. Eddie Royal, 11. Vincent Brown, 12. Roscoe Parrish, 38. Michael Spurlock TE - 13. Antonio Gates, 14. Ladarius Green, 15. Randy McMichael, 16. Donte Rosario T - 17. Jared Gaither, 18. Jeromey Clary, 19. Mario Henderson, 20. Mike Harris G - 21. Tyronne Green, 22. Louis Vasquez, 23. Stephen Schilling, 24. Rex Hadnot C - 25. Nick Hardwick, 26. David Molk DE - 27. Vaughn Martin, 28. Corey Liuget, 29. Jacques Cesaire, 30. Kendall Reyes DT - 32. Antonio Garay, 33. Aubrayo Franklin, 34.Cam Thomas LB - 35. Shaun Phillips, 36. Melvin Ingram, 37. Jarret Johnson, 39. Antwan Barnes, 40. Takeo Spikes, 41. Donald Butler, 42. Jonas Mouton, 43. Demorrio Williams CB - 44. Quentin Jammer, 45. Antoine Cason, 46. Marcus Gilchrist, 47. Shareece Wright FS - 48. Eric Weddle, 49. Darrell Stuckey SS - 50. Atari Bigby, 51. Brandon Taylor LS - 31. Mike Windt K - 52. Nate Kaeding P - 53. Mike Scifres PS - Jarret Lee, Edwin Baker, Michael Hayes, Brad Taylor, Mike Harris, Logan Harrell, De'Andre Pressley, Corey Lynch Reasons: -Jackie Battle makes the team cause coaches are high on him and he can play both FB and RB. Poor Brinkley is on the outside looking in with a much deeper group then the last few years. Ronnie Brown has looked great in practice, quick, great hands. -Keeping 6 WR's for special teamers. Roscoe and Spurlock will be the gunners and not catch too many balls, but Roscoe backs up Royal well and Spurlock can fill in a pinch. -4 TE's for sure. The league is moving to this and Gates\McMichael are locks while Donte Rosario is a pretty good talent, and Green will not make it to the practice squad. -O-Line, Mike Harris's name is getting around too much, think they might like to keep Baxter as well but probably wont be able to sneak Harris on the PS, so he gets Baxter's spot. Molk has been looking beastly backing up Hardwick, love this kid. -D-Line, Jaques could be pushed but he looks like he has one more year in him, and I think the release of Castillo sealed his spot on the team, outside chance we go with 6 lineman and he would be the casualty. Kendall Reyes has looked like a beast at DE so far. -LB's seem set. If we drop a person somewhere else, Gachkar may make the team for ST's. English has spent most of the first week on the sideline with soreness. He has been given enough shots. Dude gets cut. If you cant realize your football career is almost over and you should play through some soreness so you dont get cut, your too stupid for my team. -Secondary is set unless an injury changes something -Kaeding looked healthy and strangely sppeared to have the stronger leg in practice last night. Seems to be about a dead heat between the 2 kickers, so following the rule that you dont lose your position to injury, Kaeding keeps his job.
FYI - you listed Mike Harris on the 53 & the PS. Your remarks indicate you think he'll make the 53, right?
QB - Rivers, Whitehurst RB - Mathews, Brown, Hayes FB - McClain TE - Gates, McMichael, Rosario, Green WR - Floyd, Meachem, Royal, Brown, Parrish LT - Gaither, Henderson LG - Green, Hadnot C - Hardwick, Molk RG - Vasquez, Schilling RT - Clary, Harris DE - Liuget, Reyes, Cesaire DE - Garay, Martin NT - Thomas, Franklin OLB - Phillips, Barnes OLB - Johnson, Ingram, English ILB - Spikes, Mouton ILB - Butler, Williams, Gachkar CB - Jammer, Gilchrist CB - Cason, Wright FS - Weddle, Stuckey SS - Bigby, Taylor K - Kaeding P - Scifres LS - Windt PS QB - Lee WR - Willie FB/TE - Doyle DE - Harrell RB - Baker (if he doesn't get claimed) FS - Cattouse CB - Presley OT - Bell
a couple quick notes *Rosario continued to excel in the red zone, hauling in yet another touchdown pass. (Could be a huge addition to our squad especially since we struggled in the red zone in years past) *The Chargers emphasized the running game today and reeled off a number of size able gains. Ryan Mathews and La’Ron McClain each had big runs up the middle while Michael Hayes had a pair of them. (Love hearing this, I picture big things from our run game this year) * Ladarius Green got extra reps with Gates resting and made the most of it, catching numerous balls including a pair of touchdowns. * Robert Meachem practiced after leaving yesterday’s night session early and caught a 20-yard strike for a touchdown from Philip Rivers.
Here is my 2 cents; QB – 1Rivers, 2Whitehurst (2) RB/FB – 3Matthews, 4McClain, 5Brown, 6Hester, 7Battle (5) OL – 8Gaither, 9Green, 10Hardwick, 11Vasquez, 12Clary, 13Molk, 14Hadnot, 15Schilling, 16Henderson (9) TE – 17Gates, 18McMichael, 19Rosario, 20Green (4) WR – 21Meachem, 22Floyd, 23Royal, 24Brown, (4) DL – 25Martin, 26Thomas, 27Liuget, 28Franklin, 29Reyes, 30Garay (6) OLB – 31Philips, 32Johnson, 33Ingram, 34Barnes, 35English (5) ILB – 36Butler, 37Spikes, 38Mouton, 39Williams, 40Gachkar (5) S- 41Weddle, 42Bigby, 43Stuckey, 44Taylor (4) CB – 45Jammer, 46Cason, 47Wright, 48Gilchrist (4) LS – 49Windt P – 50Scifres K – 51Kaeding KR/PR – 52Goodman&53Parrish
Matilack I see no Hester on your roster. I'd like this too but don't see them cutting him. Hayes to the PS for me, provided we can hide him enough during preseason ie. don't let other teams see how good he is.
There's no way that Harris is going to be snuck onto the PS. If he's good enough to practice with the 1s, then they aren't going to chance him getting poached
Something I actually agree with Acee on..... UTKevinAcee @UTKevinAcee RT @boltsfan5556:How is Sperry doing/not doing? 4th TE or time to move on? >Don't see him making team, barring injury.
*Edit* Just edited my roster and PS.. I've been on vaca last week or so, so I haven't been able to keep up with the latest Chargers buzz..
OFFENSE (25) QB: Rivers, Whitehurst RB/FB: Mathews, Brown, McClain, Hester WR: Meachem, Floyd, Royal, Brown, Goodman TE: Gates, Green, McMichael, Rosario OL: Gaither, Henderson, Clary, Harris, Green, Hadnot, Vasquez, Schilling, Hardwick, Molk DEFENSE (25) DL: Martin, Liuget, Reyes, Garay, Franklin, Thomas, Cesaire. LB: Phillips, Ingram, Johnson, English, Barnes, Spikes, Butler, Mouton, Williams, Gachkar DB: Jammer, Cason, Gilchrist, Wright, Weddle, Bigby, Stuckey, Taylor OTHERS (3): Kaeding, Windt & Scifres I'll probably end up completely wrong, but I gave it a go anyway lol. I don't see the need for Battle if we have McClain, same with Brinkley since we have Brown. I think Bigby is Starting SS, with Stuckey contributing more on ST. I also think Richard Goodman improved a lot as a KR/PR towards the end of last season, I'd like to see him get another year.
So why do people think Hester makes the roster? He's going to be a bench ornament, except for specialty goal line situations where we might use McClain with Hester at FB. I have a feeling we'll want to use that 52nd or 53rd roster spot on a guy like Michael Hayes, DeAndre Presley, Logan Harrel, Mike Willie, Charlie Bryant, Eddie Brown, or god forbid Phillip Payne who I'm hearing is this years Bryan Walters.
Which is precisely why we'll keep Hester. We need one guy each year that we cut and goes on to shine with another team. Tradition is important, you know.
Acee and Gehlken cut TE Green Updated Chargers depth chart By Kevin Acee andMichael Gehlken As a checkpoint to chart roster movement throughout training camp, Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken and columnist Kevin Acee are compiling a weekly 53-man roster and depth chart. This second version remains a work in progress, but definition is in its early stages a little more than a week into camp. Position battles -- particularly those involving players who contribute on special teams – will continue to sway the roster over the next several weeks. Depth at offensive tackle also remains in the balance. Some changes have been made already, based on conversations with players and coaches and the distribution of reps during practice. The projected roster will be updated following every preseason game. Green and Parrish? All I've heard is good things about both! Norv even said we're probably keeping 4 TEs. I think it'd be a huge mistake to cut Parrish for Spurlock, simply because Bisaccia knows Spurlock more. Parrish is an explosive returner, and a capable backup WR. AJ isn't stupid enough to think he can get Green on the practice squad is he?
Hester makes it because he carries a lunch pail, is hard working, cerebral, is a leader, gutsy, Collinsworth likes him, Diedorf likes him, and AJ spent a lot to draft him.
Wow thats amazing. And yet AJ felt the need to go get LeRon McLain? Hester is a hard worker and locker room presence, but the NFL is a business and we don't need 2 FBs.
Hester has that certain something special that's hard to put your finger on. A true leader for San Diego
With such a good backpedal, maybe we can move Acee to corner........ UTKevinAcee @UTKevinAcee I can all but guarantee Corey Lynch makes team. And, yes, Ladarius Green will too. Can't say how they make 'em fit. But it's clear they will
Green probably won't play much at all, but he'll make the team because he's a big time prospect who would get claimed within 10 minutes of being waived....probably by a team like Oakland who is TE needy. One of the things he did well in college was play FB/H-back though, he's a very underrated blocker, could be a big time redzone threat. I don't know anything about Corey Lynch, but he seems like another Steve Gregory.
