Seems as old AJ has two different faces.....he stated he wanted a third round pick for Donnie Edwards and the Saints offered a third rounder only for AJ to back out. What's up with that? Personally I'm glad it didn't happen cause that is way too much for his age. But it does say alot about the type of GM AJ is.
How about them SAINTS........Brees did nothing spectacular but he was a far cry from Aaron Brooks which you will be delighted to face tonight.....Best of luck to yall...my bets are on the chargers in this one!

Your GM - Marty Loomis was given a deadline of Saturday. He missed it and got spanked by A.J. Smith.

Our team needs to focus on the season and not the Saints.

If the Saints want Donnie - it will now cost you a second round pick.

If your GM wanted Donnie so bad, he should have offered the 3rd by our deadline and not Loomis'.

    Business is business.

Saintsfan, the Saints offered him the 3rd rounder TOO LATE. If it would have happened a few hours earlier, Donnie would be on his way to New Orleans or even there already.

When AJ sets a deadline and/or his terms, he means it. He doesn't waver, AT ALL.

Remember, he told EVERYONE what he wanted MONTHS ago when Donnie was first placed on the block:

    A first day draft pick.

That means at least a 3rd round pick.

New Orleans originally offered a 4th round pick a month or so ago.

Was that a first day draft pick? Nope. DENIED.

The Saints had at least TWO months to get that 3rd round pick offer in to AJ. They farted around and waited until the last minute.

It seems then that AJ said early last week that any first day pick offers must be in by last Saturday night at midnight, Eastern time. He gave any possible takers enough time to get their offers in. After that deadline, the requirement would go up to a second round pick at the very minimum.

Saints' GM Loomis got his offer in a few hours late. DENIED.

When AJ Smith sets his terms, HE DOES NOT WAFFLE from them. He doesn't do it for anybody.

What happens when a GM "slides" on his terms or deadlines? He becomes a GM whose statements aren't worth anything because he doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to stand by them.

AJ is not that type of GM. And he never will be.

P.S. Ask Antonio Gates and his agent if AJ says what he means and means what he says. Keenan McCardell too.

I was unaware that the Saints finally offered up a 3rd rounder. Did that go down before or after we lost Foley?

EDIT: just found the article... of course the offer is off the table! AJ doesn't BS and we're now short a linebaker, no shocker here.

I like that AJ stuck to that deadline. You can't just have teams ignoring deadlines and leaving you trading what is a starter that close to the first game when you just lost another starter. Trade for him earlier & there wasn't a problem. Keep waiting and the price goes up. I like it.

As for Brees, the saints can have him. Have fun watching those dump-off passes and field goals vs a crappy team like the Browns. At least here he used to light bad teams up, now it looks like he doesn't even do that. Joe Horn, your career is officially over unless you leave town.

      He is available until October.

For a second rounder once the Saturday deadline passed.

      Why the confusion?

According to Shamrock and rmancil by way of some inside media guy in New Orleans (Wilkerson?) it was actually a 3rd-round pick in '08 that was offered.

And I love how Saints fans make it sound like it's AJ's fault the deal didn't go through. It sounds to me like AJ was very specific about what he wanted and Loomis was playing games.

Loomis' only possible excuse would be that he was delayed by the 47 clowns climbing out of the car ahead of him. I can alomst hear the circus music from over New Orleans way...
