Zimmer Hopes to bring continuity; Gibbs to interview Sunday Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer knows a thing or two about change. In a 13-year run with the Dallas Cowboys, he worked under four different head coaches, and in 2005, he oversaw the team’s transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 system. “Mike has been a very successful defensive coordinator and he’s very knowledgeable about the system we want to keep in place here,” General Manager A.J. Smith said. “Dallas has consistently ranked in the League’s upper half defensively and even led the league in defense just a few years ago.” As Zimmer made his pitch to Chargers President Dean Spanos and Smith Saturday, he presented his ideas on how he’d handle a leadership change with a 14-2 club that has high aspirations for 2007. Mike Zimmer interview Wasn't to impressed with Zimmer, he seemed lost in his own thought at times. Kind of like I get all the time.
Mike Zimmer interview Don't think he was a likely candidate but for some reason they decided to interview him anyway
Zimmer did get one thing wrong in his interview. He said the situation was unique with this team having gone "12 and 4" last season. So maybe dude was flat tired, but that's just one little thing he missed. Either way, I don't see him getting the job. He admitted that his dream was never to be a head coach. But rather to just be the best at whatever job he's doing. Not very inspiring. NEXT
I agree, I wasn't too impressed with Zimmer either. Based soley off the interviews and the impressions I got from them, I think i'd rather have Norv.
I think if it was such a given that they're going to hire him they would've done so already. They've already interviewed enough people to make it look like they're making a real search and they've already satisfied the Rooney rule. If they had their mind made up we'd already know who our new HC is.
Not to mention Norv would've been the 1st or 2nd person interviewed, that way the hiring wouldn't land so close to his interview.
:trout: :trout: :trout: SINGLETARY!!!!! Besides, one reason Norv was only with us one year is he butted heads with Jobu about Flutie playing. Norv wanted Brees in full time, Jobu thought not. Why bring in another coach who has already shown that he will butt heads with the GM IN OUR SYSTEM! Makes no sense to me. He hasnt done diddly any place he has been a HC. Are we hoping this team is good enough to at least give him a winning season?
