    espn mock, f'n kiper....

    16. San Diego Chargers (8-8)

Kiper pick: Malcolm Jenkins -- Jenkins has all the qualities you look for, with the exception of top-flight recovery speed, which is an obvious concern. Even so, he's too good an overall performer to pass up in the middle of the first round.
McShay pick: Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC -- Maualuga's draft stock could hinge on the severity of the hamstring injury he suffered at the com

They won't take a DB. Or a RB.

    If they do....:banghead::banghead:

At least an RB makes sense, a DB doesn't. There's no safety worthy of that pick and we don't need a fourth first round cornerback

A corner back? Is Mel sniffing his hair gel again?

McShay's pick is a position of need.

Not any more. No way the chargers pick a RB, that is in the same doesn't make any sense category as a DB.

Running back makes more sense then DB because we still need at least a solid back up running back to fill in for LT/Sproles. What we absolutely don't need are punters, kickers, wide receivers (maybe) and definitely cornerbacks.

I want beef too but by comparison its more sensible to get a RB then a DB

Apparently those in the know reckon Jenkins could turn into a legendary FS moreso than a corner. If the Chargers were thinking that way too then it is possible he gets selected. I hope not though, I want the DE Jackson outta LSU or Jerry the DT from Ole Miss.

I dunno how many people have said it but bring the BEEF AJ puhleeeeeeeeze.

    Funny story.

So the guy at my gym asked me if I would support a Reggie Bush for LT trade... this was two days ago, before LT's restructured contract and after Brees's comments. I laughed and said... that's ridiculous. He asked what about Bush and Shockey, and I laughed and replied with one word: "Gates." I told him we'd send LT to you for Colston, and to sweeten it, we'll throw in Buster. (I was only kidding) :icon_rofl: But with the look on his face, he was actually considering it.

Kiper goes more on "value" than on priority/need.

His hairdo makes his picks even more ridiculous.

No no no. We NEED a DE and some offensive linemen. If anything I'd be ok with a LB but anyhting other then these three spots is not responisble.

That's his system, AJ seems to go more on need then anything else and he picks HIS guys, damn with the standards set by draft gurus. And yeah I guess value wise Jenkins is a damn good value. But he is so not what we need, and value taken to an extreme is what the Lions did - three WRs in three straight first rounds

if the players AJ wants are gone and one of the QBs is there at 16 I could see AJ trading down for a second rounder, I'd rather have a later first and a second than just a mid first

Are you suggesting that the Chargers would draft a QB and then trade him for a second rounder? Wouldn't that be a waste of a first round pick?

No it isnt. Neither makes sense. Backing up LT and Sproles is Hester. He will be the 3rd HB. We arent going to draft a first round RB to be our #3 HB. That is insane.

WR i could see ONLY if all the OT's and DE's are gone. Id take Maclin and then offer Buster and possibly something else in trade and try and get a 2nd round pick.

Looks to me like he said trade down to get a 2nd. In other words, a team wants to trade up to our #16 up to get a QB so we take their first rounder and get their 2nd.

no, I was suggesting that if a team wants that QB and thinks they can't get them with their pick and have to trade up to get him, maybe the Chargers could trade down

Ah...now this sounds like it could work. But I wonder what we'd then do in the second round. So I guess I have to say that with the needs we have it would be best to go and go early, use the first round pick to improve the team, not trade it away.

Don't doubt the ability of AJ to make a good trade and drop down to pick up more picks

    *cough*sammydavis*cough*

If we trade down I'm gonna be pissed, esp. if Maualuga or a good OL/DL is there staring us in the face.

I get what your saying, but, if nobody is there and another team wants that pick, maybe AJ can work a good deal :icon_shrug:

checking the trade value chart with the 16th pick you can get a mid 20's pick plus a mid 2nd rounder (more or less)

add to that the comp picks and all the holes can be filled, let's remember, the Chargers need a RT, not a LT, those should be cheaper

    Ya'll hijacking my sig!

Ant, drafting a RB at #16 is a ridiculous as a DB. Neither of those positions is a need in 2009.

OL,DL, MLB. That is what they MUST pick at #16 and there will be a quality starter in that group.
