SAN DIEGO -- The effort to keep the San Diego Chargers in the San Diego area might depend on two cities teaming up, 10News' Michael Chen reported.

Sources informed Chen that the cities of Oceanside and Escondido are discussing a partnership that would solve some of the biggest hurdles -- finding enough space for both a new stadium and a mixed-used development that could help the team fund the stadium.

The proposed plan would have one city host the stadium while the other city would build the mixed-use development to aid in the funding.

The Chargers will take a look at Escondido and the 17-acre site of its swap meet.

Next week, the team will begin meeting with developers to discuss specific details in order to see if the plan is doable.

Mark Fabiani, Special Counsel for the Chargers, said, "It sounds promising. While it is an advantage for the projects to be connected, it is possible to divide it. The key will be generating the needed revenue to privately finance a stadium."

Man, I hope something gets done on this stadium! I don't want to claim, "Los Angeles Chargers". I will still support them if they do move though.

    Damn it.

Obviously it's 100,000,000,000x better than leaving entirely, but I'd rather not have to go to north county cities to get to a game.

Man, they have GOT to find a way to incorporate the ocean near the near stadium! I mean, the ocean IS San Diego and would make for a great backdrop for Home Games, Super Bowls and bring tourists here. That translates to more revenue and jobs. Get er done Fabiani!

I would think the wind would be an issue. Where petco park is I think the ball would sail on deep passes and punts. Not sure how they do it up at Candlestick, just my thoughts. I'm dreading the thought of a september game in Escondido though. I forget the reason... but why can't they tear down the jack and build on the same spot?

This story is BS. They are sending this out because the team doesnt want the city and its fans to stop buying tickets to the rest of the games this season. The team cannot afford the people of this area to feel helpless about them leaving. Trust me I want them to stay in SD County and truly hope they do. But is Escondido and Oside really the answer. I doubt it but I really do hope so. I sense something silly about this report. :icon_shrug:

Fabiani was just on 1090. Discussions with both cities have been taking place all summer, and 2 more meetings are scheduled next week, Monday and Tuesday. He said any stadium that's built will need to at least match what Dallas did, technology wise. Big hi-def screens, in the end zones of course, since there's no roof. 62K seats, expandible to 72K for super bowls.

City better act fast. The City of Industry just cleared a major hurdle today with an opposition group. All they have to do now is pasify the city of walnut to get go ahead for land use and it goes into phase two, securing terms. Chargers, Rams, Jaguars, Vikings, Bills have all been in preliminary talks.

Unless someone gives Spanos the land, it won't get done.
