I see Gates with a $7,362,500 cap hit and no dead money if released, and wonder if it maybe time to talk to him about a pay cut.

Also, Clary, Jarrett Johnson, and Royal all have a cap # over $6mil with no dead money next year, so it maybe time to cut ties on all 3

I imagine Gates will probably retire. He is getting to that point and quite often you can see him standing after the play trying to get his breath.

Not after a season in which he'll have 60+ catches. He's still got some to offer, I think he plays out his contract, but it would be nice if he took a pay cut to stay here in SD with Rivers and Co.

But could also see him take the Tony Gonzalez path..

Don't know if I cut JJ, have to keep him for insurance reasons in case another OLB goes down or Ingram can't play the strong side well. But, if we cut Clary, Royal - restructure Weddle and Gates, then we're talking $15M+ added to the cap.

I'd hope so, but, guys want a ring too. I just hope if it does come to that, we trade him to an NFC team and not an AFC team. Think Telesco is smart enough to know that.

I would like to keep Johnson if he is healthy. He has helped the pass rush and he seemed to bring an attack attitude to the LBs.

I know, I agree. Just would be nice to see him go out in Bolts.

    Definitely.

It would be nice if we could trade Royal and get something back from him, I know the Redskins liked him a lot in FA we just gave him more money and a QB. I know he was interested in joining the Redskins as well, playing close home to VA. I'd take a 6th rounder for him, heck even a 7th, better than just nothing.

With 7 TD's to his name, could attract some attention. Again, NFC opponent with him though.
Sorry, saw your sig and reminded me of what we should do with Royal.
