Low contact drills today . A lot of focus on technique. LB group worked hard in front of the stands hitting the pads , foot work and a lot of hand work ( slapping off ( rips) and arm bars designed to disengage from the OL. A lot of work on spin moves as well. (Foley , Merriman best of group.)

I yelled out to coach Phillips and asked him would we see more press corner coverage and he said " he didn't know about that but that we sure are going to kick some ***." That got a strong response from the crowd.

Wr Woods came out and stretched a bit with all the other players and then he was done . Wr Jackson had a seller day again he realy is stepping it up he must have caught a least six balls , he and Rivers are clicking. Malcom Floyd also was working hard he made a great all out effort on a deep Rivers pass that fell a little long.

LT was spread outside a great deal once again today, most of the time he ran pass routes but he also popped back inside at tailback in the offset I formation. The Chargers did split the TE out in that formation as well .

TE Manumaleuna along with Gates was the featured in "Big SET'S" which was a formation that they also split LT in and used WR Jackson as well. I doubt any other team can go "elephant" like the Bolts.

The club worked a great deal on punt coverage and on the gunner roles today, Malcom Floyd played extremely well which has to help him a lot. On the flip side Wr Greg Camarillo struggled a several occasions getting off the line which had to hurt his chances to make the squad. Camarillo runs some nice routs and adjust to the ball real well however he isn't a burner and is much smaller than most of our WR.

Osgood showed his ST skills as well getting down field and defending the return well. Jammer was the most impressive gunner as he didn't bother buckling his chin strap he simply took a in step inside and the jumped outside , out running his adversaries in a real smart move.

Wr Ricky Bryant had his best day returning a punt down the left side line for a T.D. and getting behind coverage for a long T.D. from Whitehurst.

On defense ILB Stephen Cooper had a stellar day , he cover a couple of wheel rotes real well making the play for no gain or for a loss. The OL struggled today with the snap count. Several false starts by our back ups in particular.

McCree, spent most of his day at FS but he also played SS when Jue came in at FS. Jue ran well and looks to be fully recovered. Kiel once again was the starter at SS and made a couple of nice pass defense plays.

Update :Rivers ran the 40 in 3.97 today when on a QB sneak he broke free put to his horror he found himself being chased by Merriman , he dove into the end zone as the coaches all let out a sigh of relief.

I think they meant a deep ball that went OVER the head of the receiver. Meaning a strong arm. :icon_wink:

Yah. Although from what I gather, Rivers didn't miss too many.

However, from TC goers, supposedly it's his locking on his receivers too early and possibly giving the seconday a chance to jump the route that can hurt him in an actual game.

If true, he should work on the 'look-off' move before preseason, and even during.

Ya, Rivers will have to do the same.

Otherwise, he may end up throwing about 17 - 20 INT this year. :icon_confused:

Brees' first look-off pass for a TD to Parker at the end of the endzone in Reliant was a thing of beauty. He indeed had to learn that part and was horrible in the beginning.

With all the talk about Rivers, Merriman, Oben, etc....I think one of the main things to come out of this training camp has been Jackson's performance. It's been overlooked, but I haven't seen anything other than glowing reviews for Jackson. Is he ready to step up and be a force this year?

Good point, and the play of some of the secondary guys, they are moving around like they are on a mission. McCree is going to prove to be the pickup of the off season!

No chance that page makes the active roster. Likely destination: practice squad or NFL europe.

Good news there. He could be backing up three positions this year.
