Times sure are different from back then as far as how we view our enemies and how those views are constantly bombarded. My grandfather was part of the invasion force on one of the japanese islands (can't remember which) and he rarely talks about it and he is also a purple heart recipient. The Muslim nutbags have nothing on the Japanese as far as toughness and fighting abilities .

I've been out to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial several times, and I still get chills just thinking about it. I was only 17 the last time I went there, but even then I was in awe of the incredible bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen (and women). Whatever those people were made of, I wish I could bottle it before they are all gone, and give a good dose of it to my fellow Baby Boomers (to say nothing of the generations that have come after us).

They truly were our Greatest Generation. No one can take their places.

I posted this earlier in the Rep Ho thread .....

G'ma always said that history was something that you read in books. She never expected to see Japanese planes shooting at her, a 20 year old Navy wife, pregnant with her second baby (my Mom).

I consider my G'ma as much of a "veteran" as my Grandfather - one of the few men to go up in a plane on Dec 7th, 1941.

    Here's my G'mas recount of December 7th, 1941.

A pic of the men of that squadron is about 3/4 the way down this page. My G'pa is seated, second from the left.
