I'm not saying Marty should be re-instated...but I do believe Norv should go!

I only refer to Marty because I see his firing as huge step back for the Chargers in pursuit of that superbowl. Despite his poor playoff record, I believe that Marty would have taken this team to HIS first superbowl win. I believe this because I believe the players believed in him!

He actually went over 100 losses a few weeks ago. He became the fastest to 100 losses in NFL history.

    He is 92-102

I don't think anybody in this thread is trying to say Norv is better than Marty.

    I know I'm not.

Offensively he is head and shoulders better. Marty's problem int he playoffs is that he will not try and score.

I wasn't saying you wanted Marty back. I was just referring to you say Marty has been in more playoff games. Norv has been about half the regular season games that Marty has so it's not completely apt to strictly compare numbers

I agree that Norval is better with the offensive gameplan. Hell, Norval's probably in the upper echelon of offensive gameplanners.

I don't want to turn this into another Norv debate, though.

I guess I will just have to accept mediocrity, because that is all that terrible head coach will bring to SD in the next few years

You don't think if we crash and burn this year AJ might consider letting him go?

Doubt it. If Norv is fired it means AJ was WRONG and if you know AJ he can't be wrong. Fudge it we're going to have to "Enjoy" the Norv era. 2013 can't come quick enough.

    Is it AJ's call?

That's not rhetorical. I'm honestly not sure if the whole thing about only Dean/Alex being able to fire the head coach was specific to Marty or not.

If Norv is gonna get fired by chance. We need a few things in our next HC. One who is Offensive friendly so Rivers can continue to be an elite passer in the passing game. One who can acknowledge our strength and weakness on Offense, and use that to whatever opponent we play. One who can FIRE UP the team and KICK THEIR A*S. Tough, but likeable (not a Coughlin type) More like a G-R-U-D-E-N type. One who can also take charge of the Defense and Special Teams if needed, and KICK THEIR A*S into gear.

Really, unless you are going to dip into the college HC pool, Gruden is the only HC who would be compatible. Cowher would never come here, Gruden would play ball with AJ IMO. Personally I think AJ is a douche.

Good question. IIRC, Bobby Beathard fired Gilbride, though Spanos fired both Ross and Schottenheimer.
