Besides the fact that the Giants traded shEli Manning for THREE Pro Bowlers (Rivers, Merriman, and Kaeding), the Giants also did not want to part with their 2nd round pick in the '04 draft so they could select Tom Coughlin's future son-in-law, Boston College OL (center/guard) Chris Snee.

Snee was taken a round higher than Chargers Pro Bowl center Nick Hardwick in the 2004 draft.

The Chargers had expressed interest in DE Osi Umenyiora, but the Giants also would not part with him in the trade of quarterbacks.

Eli Manning, Osi Umenyiora, and Chris Snee have ZERO Pro Bowl appearances.

I made a mistake, Osi Umenyiora did make the Pro Bowl last season, but still, he was just part of the rumor side of the deal that didn't happen.

I exchanged some emails with DMN Rick Gosselin on this subject. Gosselin just emailed me back, saying that he is about to file a column he had been writing on the Rivers/Manning trade. It will appear in this Friday's Dallas Morning News.

OK, I understand. Can't break the mojo.

But to honor his performance on Sunday you have to say something nice about Donnie.

If I'm not mistaken, Osi Umenyiora made the Pro Bowl last year. Him & Strahan both made it and Giants fans cling to the fact that AJ asked for Umenyiora to be part of the trade and Ernie Acorsi balked as some kind of moral victory for them, disregarding the fact that if he had been included, then we would not have received the draft pick that became Shawne Merriman. Here are a few more "observations" from their board....enjoy!

Do you think Eli might be saying "should have gone to the chargers?"

    Chargers won for losing Eli
    - DMN - Gosselin

Chargers' secret ingredient: defense - DMN - Gosselin

Out of the zone - DMN - Gosselin

The downside of LaDainian Tomlinson setting an NFL touchdown record is that when he reaches the end zone, none of his San Diego teammates can. Keenan McCardell and Eric Parker are the primary starters at wide receiver for the Chargers but have not scored any touchdowns. That's 75 combined catches without hitting pay dirt. The Chargers have two remaining games – with Seattle and Arizona. If neither McCardell nor Parker scores, they will become just the second set of starting wideouts in the game's modern era to go an entire season without any TD catches. Ike Hilliard and Amani Toomer failed to reach the end zone in 2004 for the New York Giants in a combined 100 receptions.

Here's a column from 2004 justifying Papa Manning's interference into his shEli's draft team.

I'd be interested in hearing what that Jamey Codding idiot thinks of it now.

We should write the jerk at

    jameycodding@bullz-eye.com

and ask for a follow-up article, if he hasn't already written one.
