I'm not so necessarily mad that they traded him because 1) I was expecting it and 2) I'm not completely against that because he's demanding top dollar and, consequently, was going to be gone after 2011 no matter what, so they may as well get something for him. (And I don't believe in a team in the Padres market giving too much to one player, no matter how good he is)

What makes me mad, though, is that they didn't get any major league players for him and didn't even wait to see if they can compete again in 2011, so they're essentially giving up on the 2011 season. (Bell's sure to go next)

This doesn't make me nearly as mad as the infamous firesales of the 90s mainly because they did seem to get a decent haul of prospects and I don't think they would trade him if he wasn't insisting on going to free agency, but it's still disappointing.

    Any rate, here's the story.

No need to boycott. Low attendance will take care of itself when they lose 2/3rds of their games.

We have no 2, 3, or 4 hitters unless Kyle Blanks learns how to play baseball.

Rizzo seems like another Chase Headlyesc' prospect that will likely dissapoint as we never develop hitters well. And Fuentes is a Cameron Maybin clone, a guy who'll hit .250 and run really fast, but won't drive in runs.

Don't read too much into that post. That was just my way of being cynical saying they're going to suck this year.

As for the prospects, I'm not going to pretend to know anything about them because I don't.

Apparently this deal is off because an extension wasn't reached by the deadline.

    Nevermind. It's back on.

But don't worry, the Padres signed Aaron Harang so we're good.

So the Padres get a new stadium with overpriced seats and no parking. Keep the saleries at a minor league level and give up on their only hitter. I don'tget the overpricing of players I guess. I know we can't go back in time but going to a game used to be affordable and fun win or lose. Yeah I'm crying 'cause I was a bleachie and spent many a day at the Pads. No more. When and if the Chargers get a stadium, the ticket price is going to be sooo much It'll be cheaper to go to Vegas and watch it at a casino. I'm really tired of unrully 'fans' that just come to games so they can fight. They should try out for the UFC or MMA and get their butt kicked but then they would have to fight one on one. That'll never happen 'cause bunches against one is the only way these cowards are.

good points. don't forget though that the Pads had to lower the value in part due to the Moores divorce

Adrian Gonzalez says it's not his fault he's leaving San Diego - Big League Stew - MLB  - Yahoo! Sports

"The biggest way to even comment to that is the fact that here in San Diego they never even made an offer and I was traded. So it wasn't like I left as a free agent somewhere else. It wasn't like I turned down a certain amount of money. So the two things is that I was never made an offer and I was traded. I didn't have a choice in staying or leaving. That's the two ways I can answer that."

I call BS on that. There was too much **** going around regarding how much he was wanting for me to believe the Padres had zero interest in extending him.

I believe it. They knew his market value and assumed they didn't have a chance, doesn't sound that unlikely too me.

Needless to say I won't be ordering MLB Extra Innings on DirectTV next year to watch "Juan Rico Nunez Taveres" or whoever play SS and hit .240 with 3 HRs with 22 RBIs........oh, but at least the skinny bastards got range.:rolleyes2:

Well, would you waste your time if you knew someone was completely out of your price range?

I'm really not mad that they traded him. The Padres cannot afford to give one man, no matter how good he is, the amount Adrian wants/is "worth". And until baseball gets a salary cap we will forever be watching players go elsewhere if they become superstar talent and want market value.

I'm only mad that they traded him now, as opposed to waiting to see if they can compete again like they were last year, and then trade him at the deadline if they don't.

I would have much rather made a push for the playoffs again and then watch him walk and get the extra draft picks than to just give up on 2011.

Part of what you should be mad about is that we got 2 AA players who sucked it up last year, and another longshot throw in, for the only legit RBI hitter in the Padres entire organization. Not to mention losing Young, Garland, and Correia, we're revamping the entire rotation. Also Heath Bell is also on the trade block soon too.

90 wins with one of the youngest teams in the league???? Time to rebuild I say!
