Rookie of the year talk has been a theme in our NFL blog network Wednesday. Tim Graham has his AFC East picks and Kevin Seifert thinks these are the standouts in the NFC North.

I am not too shy to join the party.

Let’s discuss the chances of some of the rookies in the AFC West winning the coveted award. I’m going to present my post a tad differently and give odds for some of the players in the division. Give your odds and thoughts about rookie’s chances in the AFC West to walk away with some hardware come January.

    Player: Rolando McClain
    Team: Oakland Raiders
    Position: Linebacker
    Odds: 5-1
Why: McClain will be an instant starter in Oakland. If the Raiders' run defense improved dramatically, it will be in large part because of McClain.

    Player: Eric Berry
    Team: Kansas City Chiefs
    Position: Safety
    Odds: 6-1
Why: Berry also steps right in and becomes one of his unit’s best players. Berry will be a bone-rattling star in Kansas City right away.

    Player: Ryan Mathews
    Team: San Diego Chargers
    Position: Running back
    Odds: 6-1
Why: Mathews has to be considered a frontrunner to win offensive rookie of the year. He has a chance to revive the Chargers’ run offense.

    Player: Demaryius Thomas
    Team: Denver Broncos
    Position: Wide Receiver
    Odds: 10-1
Why: Thomas will get plenty of chances to make an impact since Denver needs a No. 1 receiver. If he catches on quickly, Thomas will have a chance to compile huge numbers.

    Player: Dexter McCluster
    Team: Kansas City Chiefs
    Position: Wide Receiver / Returner
    Odds: 12-1
Why: McCluster will get plenty of chances to make an impact. If he is as explosive in the NFL as he was in college, he has a chance to really stand out.

    Player: Lamarr Houston
    Team: Oakland Raiders
    Position: Defensive End
    Odds: 25-1
Why: Houston looked very active at Oakland’s minicamp last week. Still, he’d need a truckload of sacks to win the award.

    Player: Tim Tebow
    Team: Denver Broncos
    Position: Quarterback
    Odds: 100-1
Why: There is little chance Tebow will play enough as a rookie to garner serious consideration.
