I understand the decision not to stick with Marty, especially since he declined the one year extension to his contract but I think AJ made his decision completely on emotion!!

We all know that AJ and Marty kept butting heads as their egos collided and I think that's what this decision was all about. I don't believe for one second that AJ thought from the beginning "what a great head coach Norv would be for this team."
I think he flaunted his ego by firing Marty then realized there's nothing available. So he had to scrape from the bottom of the barrel!

AJ, you should have sucked up your pride, let Marty play out the last year of his contract, then see what's available in 2008.
If Norv continues to suck (aka: be Norv), then we'll be on our third coach in three straight years in 2008 and that's bad... REALLY BAD!!!
Could be very damaging to a team with such a promising era!! :icon_evil:

Nice post except for the fact that it was Dean Spanos that sent Morty packing not AJ. :icon_rofl:

And you don't think AJ had any influence on that decision?

Not much. Deano was sick and tired of Morty pimping his brother for DC. He said that it was his decision to term Morty.

Go ahead and blame it on AJ if it makes you feel better.

    Not in this case.

Dean Spanos was quoted as saying he told Marty multiple times over the years that he didn't want his brother Kurt, or any other Schottenheimer family member, on the coaching staff. It was bad enough that Brian was the QB coach for a few years.

Marty had already tried to get his son Brian promoted to offensive coordinator here after Norv left. AJ and Dean decided to go with Cam Cameron instead.

After Marty tried yet again to bring in a family member, this time Kurt to be the defensive coordinator, Dean said no to him again. Marty held firm regarding his brother.

That's when Dean fired him. Actually, the correct terminology is "let him go from his contract, but he still gets his $4 million."

If Marty had his way, here's how the coaching staff would have looked:

    HC: Marty Schottenheimer
    OC: Brian Schottenheimer
    DC: Kurt Schottenheimer

What is the General Manager's job?
To spend the C.E.O.'s money wisely.

Dean sends coaches or players packing but who makes the decisions?
    Who brought in Norv? AJ

Don't forget about morty letting go of our four or more other good coordinators.

its very possible the team could be even worse if morty had stayed. YOU also have to remember we lost alot of coaches before they finally gave morty the heave ho.

Man these threads are getting old...

We talked smack, we went into their house and got taken behind the woodshed Deliverance-style.

    It's over.

Venting about poor play is normal and healthy, but to condemn the entire coaching staff? After the second game of the season? For goodness sake, now Marty is the savior?

You guys slay me... you really do.

To be honest. It wasn't so much the chargers were bad. It was that the pats knew whatever the chargers were gonna do. You have to remember bellicheat only got his hand slapped thursday.

It just seemed odd that what ever the chargers did on offense and defense the pats were there to take advantage of it.

It was like a knife cutting through butter how they went through us. And you have to remember we have players that aren't chopped liver. Either they are the greatest coaches ever on the pats team or something else was going on.

Well, I did see a couple of fans with "cameras" in the audience and cell phones. The fact that those cameras were fake (mostly cardboard boxes), doesn't mean a thing.

the chargers aren't that bad. And the pats time and again knew just what to do to score or stop the chargers. Just very strange.

The NBC cameras were showing all the "legal" camera and picture taking stuff last night.

It's most likely that Belichick or his guys know how to use those things better than pretty much everyone else.

I bet you this team will have a better record with Norv as the HC going into the bye week than the Redskins did with Gibbs as their HC in his first season after he returned.

This is largely a new coaching staff, early in the season. There is no way that the Pats could have sussed enough intel on us to have been so completely wired into our game plan. The Chargers simply failed to adjust to what they were doing and Belicheat kept hammering us with it because we couldn't stop them. The Chargers appear to have been psyched out by all this spy crap and by the Pat's fast start and essentially wet their pants. They have the rest of the week to dry out.

    And you don't?

Gibbs returned as HC of the Redskins in 2004 and went 2-4 before their BYE week.

This team will be 4-2 or 5-1 by our BYE week.

So, how is it stupid or wrong to say what I did above? Tell me, I'd like to know.

Maybe so but it's not like Norv didn't have any talent to work with in DC.
Now Oakland is a different story and doesn't count. Vince Lombardi couldn't have got that team winning!!

Fact is, he ran the Redskins into the ground!!!
So far, he's doing the same thing here!!!

Norv had his QB thrust upon him by that dick of an owner Dan Snyder.

Whatever but right now, he's destroying our Pro Bowl quarterback and that's 100% fact!!!

If Marty was a "Quarterback Killer," then Norv is "The Quarterback Slasher!!"

No, that's 100% your OPINION. A QB having a couple of bad games is not "destroyed." If Rivers lights it up this weekend, has Norv suddenly resurrected him?

Your hatred of Norv is just making you sound retarded. You have posted like a 100 posts since Sunday *****ing about him. Did he screw your wife/girlfriend or something?

Let's see how this plays out, eh?

Actually, you're wrong again. I thought Norv sucked wayyyyy before the Chargers signed him!!!

A QB having a bad game is one thing but what about having horrible games and losing his confidence?
Did Rivers look confident? Did the team look prepared?
Well... guess who's job that is?!!!!
