Definitely a good quote to poke fun at the people who say his arms are too short, LOL.

Does everyone forget that the T-Rex, with the small arms, was the biggest, baddest, nastiest dinosaur out there? That he ate anything he wanted and did whatever he wanted?

    Just an FYI

Actually he was only for his era. Later, greater predictors would have tore him up... Now if you want to call him a
Sauroposeidon, or Giganotosaurus then you might be on to something.

    Seriously, Conc?

Thomas was every bit as good as Garay last year, and he had the 2nd most sacks on the team (after Barnes). To imply that Thomas wasn't making an impact is just plain false.

Hey, I watch the games too, you know....... and I can read his stats as well. I know some people around here have trouble with those things. ;)

Don't be too shocked, if Garay is the one playing backup this year.

I would be all for it. He had flashes his first two seasons but no consistency. 16 games last season a combined 20 tackles. Not dominant play. Granted he did not start all of those, but did have some decent playing time.

I want to see him be the monster you are gif'ing him to be, but he has not made it YET IMHO.

He only started 2 games...... how many tackles did you expect him to make as a backup? Garay started 13 games, and only had 57 tackles. Garay had 2.5 sacks, Thomas had 4.

If Thomas wasn't "dominant" in your eyes, neither was Garay. I certainly wouldn't say that Cam played worse.

I expected more than what he provided. And dont go all 'fan-boy' and start to get butt-hurt because your boi is not getting laurels thrown at him yet. You act as if playing back up means he is only on the field a few snaps a game. C'mon, you need to be far more objective than that.

4 sacks is fine, what is he doing when he isnt hitting the QB? I want to see more out of him. If that does not sit right with you so be it...

Until I do, he is more godzookie in my eyes...

I am being objective, believe it or not.

I'm simply saying that Cam is ready to start for the team. Garay is getting old, and we've already seen his best. He's better off getting less snaps, where he can be fresher, and therefore more effective. Thomas is the young guy with the energy who's still improving..... he deserves to start.

I don't see how that qualifies as being "rose-colored" or a "fan-boy" in my assessment of Thomas. Just like Martin, he's shown development and it's his time to take the starting spot.

I sincerely hope you're right about Cam. Maybe he really just needed to get away from those other knuckleheads at UNC.

Until my mind is changed, Garay is my huckleberry. And maybe Vaughn now that we have a few 5-techs. ;)

Well, considering how much the Chargers paid Garay to return, I have to think that they envision him in a backup role this year. Couldn't say he was the highest free agent priority.

I'd be happy if they split time, frankly. NT is a very demanding position physically, and a 32 year old is going to wear down. Giving the younger guy more reps is only sensible, considering Thomas is still improving, while Garay has hit his ceiling.

I harp on NT for the same reasons as you.

I just want AJ to see the importance as well. If Cam is aethling then so be it. I don't think either is sold on the idea.

Hey, I wouldn't have been against drafting a NT in the 1st round. I know how critical it is to the 3-4 defense. Having a Jamal type would be HUGE for our team....... we don't have that though. Still, I think an ascending Thomas is better starter over a descending Garay.

Even 50/50 in snaps would be a smart move. 538 snaps for Garay last year.... that's too many. Cam is ready to take more of the load.

I expect AJ to sign another veteran NT to the roster. You need more than two guys at such a critical position.

    In Cam Thomas's defense

Last year His real first year at NT had 20 tackles and 4 sacks

The great Jamal Williams only had 1 season where he had 4 sacks

I expect Big things from CAM

Sacks aren't a measure of NT performance, and neither are tackles. The only measure of NT performance is how many O-linemen are trying to block him, and how many yards he goes backwards. 2004-6, Jamal Williams frequently took up 2 linemen and pushed them backwards. I remember in the 2005 Steeler game Madden highlighted (while eating a sandwich) how Williams was engaged by the center and both guards and did not move backwards. That's the mark of a great NT.

Sacks are nice, especially since getting sacked by a 350 lb man is probably traumatic for the QB, but they aren't the bread and butter of the position.
