“This is what I'm asking myself as I watch this wind down,” he offered:

    “1. What happened between 2007 and 2008?

“2. What's happened to the defense on third-down conversions? It seems automatic for the offenses now. It's been much too easy. They're dangerous, because they can break your spirit.

“3. The offensive line. We lack a running game. This is a deficiency. If we don't fix the running game and stop the passing assaults on third down, a championship will not be coming to San Diego any time soon.

“4. Is our talent base overrated, or is it just an off year for them? Are some of the players starting to decline?

“5. When a losing period enters a football team, how do the players react? Do they split away and divide the team? They're easy to find.”

The answers are not going to come easily.

Well, we certainly can't state opinions for new coaching prospects.

Last time I did that, it was followed by a thread with 156 posts of belitteling, discrediting, antagonizing, harassing, and nothing else!

I'm sure glad that the real fans that attend games are nothing like some of those that post in this forum. If that were the case, we'd have a worse fan base than the Raiders!!! Sad But True!!!

Can we just change the name of the forum to BOLTS4LIFETALK.com already?

Well, at least those who doubted AJ was paying attention have thier answer.

    My answers to those questions:

    1. Marty > Norv attitude transition has been completed.

    2. No pass rush on 3rd downs from our front 3/4 guys. Qbs have plenty of time to sit back and find the open man. By now this D has NO CONFIDENCE in itself to get off the field, and when they do, the O puts them right back on 4 plays later.

    3. Rebuild the line thru the draft and FA. It's time to spend some dough AND high pickS along the line on both sides of the ball. McNeill is our only high pick on the line and he's probably the best or second best on the line. Jamal needs a LEGIT backup, he's just about done.

    4. Yes, they are overrated. Yes, some players are starting to decline. Yes, it's time to draft/sign heir apparents.

    5. Our players have show they will quit on the coach, take sides, whine in the press, all of the above. Take away veteren leadership from the team, give them a cupcake to babysit, and the children have to run wild all over the place.

This can be fixed, I have no doubt and I still have faith in AJ to get it done. First on the agenda, suck it up, admit you made a MASSIVE mistake hiring Norv, fire him, and get someone to keep these guys in check and smack them around when they get outta line, ala Marty, since that's what it looks like they need.

"The head coach has already been addressed" is repeated over and over. imo this means there is major trouble with Norv. Unless we win almost every remaining game, I think Norv will be gone...and I hope he is regardless of the final W-L record. He has almost ruined this team...a colossal hiring mistake.

Norval is simply not a disciplinarian. It shows in the play of this team and fact that they don't finish. This team got dispirited with the earlier reversersals, whether it was key injuries, rotten calls or complacency bred by too fat a set of contracts too soon. This team has the look of a group that's feeling sorry for one another and Norval hasn't been able to kick any gumption back into them.

RTL... we just need to pat B4L on the head and sit him in the corner for a while. He'll be fine.

As for the "list", I'm with Kim here. AJ left Norv out of the 5 points, but he didn't give him a ringing endorsement in this discussion with canepa. I'm sure he told Norv that NO PLAYOFFS = NO JOB. And if that's the case, he has probably already told Rivera NO PLAYOFFS = NEW JOB.

Let the Ron "Rebound" Rivera Era begin. :icon_party:

Kimmie, I was thinking the opposite: "I've already stated that Norv is my guy, I'm addressing everything else.".

I'm starting to believe that Norv will be back even if we finish up at 4-12.

Bad times, Charger fans. Bad times.

AJ "addressed" the possibility of a failed experiment by getting Rivera here in the first place. Depending on your feelings about AJ, you may see this as

    a) incredible foresight & planning
    b) the biggest case of CYA in Charger history
    c) incredible foresight on the part of Rivera to know that the "dynamic duo" would fail
    d) another mistake
    e) all of the above
    f) all of the above except d

I'm thinking B, but still hope that Rivera gets the HC nod here. The defense IS responding - we have weaknesses that need to be addressed & we miss SM badly, but Rivera is getting a handle on this side of the ball. He'll bring some much-needed discipline.

If we promote Rivera & feel that no one on staff is adequate for DC, we oughtta jump on Nolan ASAP.

My concern is that he thinks the problems came between 2007 & 2008.

I contend they started before that.

We got damn lucky last year

Well, OK. We get Norv another year.

Get a real offensive coordinator and let Norv try to be a head coach.

    Problem solved

The solution isn't necessarily that Norv stays. AJ plays his cards pretty close. We won't know anything for certain until after we've played our last game for this season.

This question is for all: If Jack Del Rio is available...

DO YOU WANT HIM AS OUR HC? :icon_shrug:

This is telling as well. It's to late to do something drastic.

Firing the HC would be, FO SHOO!!

I dunno. If we make a change, I'd still prefer to give Rivera the shot. The Jags have had pretty much the same transformation from last year to this year that we've had.

I hope the people who were so quick to ride Rivers for his crucial game killing INT's while licking Brees' nutsack watched that Saints/Tampa game this past weekend.

We already had that grass. It's not greener but sometimes it has this shine that quickly vanishes in January. With Brees we never saw playoff success. With Rivers we have. At the risk of getting lamblasted by B4L, Norv did that. He actually figured something out and got the job done but 11-5 AFCCG to nothing is unacceptable. Not every HC deserves that blame and Norv is no exception but he is doing things differently and just outright blowing it - it's time to go. The solution in not just firing Norv but I certainly think that is absolutely part of it.
