Although Bengals have good players, record is dead-flat average

    <font class="newstext">But the defending AFC North champions have lost four of their past five and in the second half of the season must face five teams that have won at least six games. </font>

    <font class="newstext">Despite the presence of skill players such as quarterback Carson Palmer, running back Rudi Johnson and receiver Chad Johnson, the Bengals offense has been somewhat inconsistent, producing just 43 points in one three-game stretch, and players have been griping about game plans. The defense has not recorded a takeway in the past two games and has just three in the past five. </font>
