And then there were three ...
Russell, Quinn, Revis remaining first-round holdouts

As the NFL approaches a full slate of preseason games next weekend, just three players taken in the first round are currently without a contract. Here's the latest on the trio.

JaMarcus Russell/QB/Raiders/No. 1 overall pick: Negotiations between Russell and the Raiders have been contentious of late. The first pick of the draft is looking for a contract which will approach $60 million and give him guarantees close to $30 million. Like other No. 1 picks in the past, Russell wants protection for the guaranteed money under any circumstance, such as injury or poor performance. That has been a sticking point for owner Al Davis.

Russell has agreed to insert language into the contract which obligates him to return a portion of the guaranteed money if there are off-the-field violations. If the Russell negotiations go nowhere veteran Daunte Culpepper has a great shot to take the starting quarterback job from Josh McCown..

Raider fans are turning on JaMarcus Russell, saying it might serve him right if he holds out the entire season and then he re-enters the draft and gets picked in the 3rd or 4th round. Lose tens of millions.

Good use of that first overall pick there!

Well, I can kinda sympathize with him. I mean, if you have to go to the Raiders, you're pretty much throwing your career away. May as well bleed as much as you can out of the old man's dry withered veins and be done with it.

What difference does it make? If he doesn't he his head screwed on straight it won't make any difference how much time he spends in camp. Anyone want to bet he mopes when he isn't handed that starting job soon enough to suit him?

He will be put through a physical hell of sorts, with all the sacks he's gonna take. So in a way, he should hold out for as much as he can get. Betcha they don't draft OL until the fourth round next year.
