    No love lost

Linebacker Donna *Ankle Biter* Edwards, who couldn't work out a contract with the Chargers, is back with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he became one of the game's best tacklers and playmakers.

Edwards is still fuming, though, about San Diego General Manager A.J. Smith.

"Football is a great team game, but this guy thought it was all about him," Edwards said. "I mean, doesn't he think Marty (Schottenheimer) was trying to win? I always thought that we were all in this together, trying to win a championship. The players, the coaches, the personnel people, everybody on a team. But not in San Diego. It's all about how (Smith) sees it. No one else seems to matter."

Edwards used a couple other words when referring to Smith, but we really can't use those references.

Donna just realized that her Chefs won't be doing anything this season, and could wind up worse than the Raiders for the first team in a long while.

Yeah, AJ was such an idiot he let Donna play for the Chargers. Now he's gone and it was all such a horrible experience. STFU. Go play for your crappy team, loser.

Sometimes I peruse the ESPN boards to get kicks. There was a guy on there who thought that with the addition of Edwards that KC had a top5, maybe top 3 LB group.

Don't see anything inaccurate about what Donnie said. For the second time in the past decade, we had a successful combination torn apart by egos. Too bad, but if we had to choose between Schottenheimer and Smith; we chose the right guy.

Maybe the reason AJ cut his butt loose is his mouth.:icon_shrug:

His mouth was what started the rift in the first place. Consider your theory proven.

It's one thing to be bitter and it's another to carry it on after you have joined a new team. Sorry Donnie you won't be having the same luck Rodney Harrison and Drew Brees had. Once again Hawaii will not miss you.

They sort of have a point. It depends if you consider Phillips and Merriman LB or not. I don't, since they are pass rushers. Cooper/Wilhelm vs Johnson/Harris/Edwards would give them an edge and some reason to be confident they have a good group.

The real problem is that unless you can keep the OL off the LB, it really doesn't matter who is at LB. Jamal and Igor do a much better job of keeping the OL off our LB then any 3 DT on their roster. I would imagine the same is true of our backups, even though it is a pretty fair dropoff from our starters to backups. Their starters are just not that good.

Merriman and Phillips are linebackers. To say they aren't would suggest that we run a 6-2 defense. Both guys do more than just rush the passer.

    Perfectly stated.

Donnie and his big f'n mouth. You'd have thought he learn to quit shooting off his mouth once it (and his ****** play) got him run out of his dream job in his hometown.

This is just sour grapes. Suffer b1tch boy.

The defense we run is very close to being a 5-2 that was popular in colleges in the 50's, 60's and 70's (which is where Wade learned it). They line up wide and rush the QB. When we go to our pass rush line, both line up just like a DE in the 43 D. THey have the same responsibilities most of the time as a 43 DE. Both Phillips and Merriman are adequate in coverage, but nothing special in pass coverage. The only reason they are noteworthy is that they rush the QB, which is what usually defines a DE.

I think Phillips is more of a pass rush guy. Shawne can do it all. He has made some tremendous plays in coverage.

You can spin it anyway you want, but Shawne and Shaun are linebackers. Just because the rush the passer more than the average linebacker does not mean they are DEs.

Marty not only didn't get along with AJ, he sabotaged himself by playing games with his coaching staff. Smith's only rule seems to be that whoever works for the team be productive, otherwise you get the hook. He holds a firm line about how the team will be run and on contracts. If other GM's were as good at their jobs as he is, there would be less mediocrity in the league. He seems to know what and who works and what doesn't. If that's being about himself, so be it, but Marty cooked his own goose. Donnie Edwards did exactly the same thing, letting his mouth overload his ***.

When LT or MT is bowling his a$$ over, maybe he'll see the light. Of the sky overhead, that is.
