I know the forum regulars have been regularly pessimistic about the local baseball team but they seem to be making splashes now with their new GM.
Granted, we haven't seen how these moves will play out on the field yet.

Maybe an GM named AJ can work out in San Diego afterall

The number of offseason moves is unprecedented in Padres history.

I feel like I'm on another planet, lol

For the first time in a decade or two, I actually sought out baseball news on the radio IN DECEMBER. And the Chargers aren't even technically eliminated yet, which makes it all that more amazing. And they did it without having to trade Hedges, Wisler, Renfroe, and Liriano. (Albeit I was sad to see Trea Turner go)

If nothing else the Padres will sell more tickets this year, and there is no way they are done making moves as there is now a full blown traffic jam in the outfield.

You can't make these kinds of moves without them involving at least one prospect it sucks to see go.

But the fact that they haven't involved as many as I would have expected them to or any of the top 3 of the rotation makes them that much better.

But, of course, nothing matters until we see if it pays off in the Win column.

Logjam in the outfield now and still questions in the infield.

I expect to see Seth Smith in a deal in the near future.

I'm looking forward to the season already! I watch every year anyway, but it is good to see these changes while still keeping our strong pitching staff. I would like to see a new closer this year.

@dennistlin: The Padres' final 2014 payroll of $85,467,063 ranked 25th. Current '15 commitments (incl. arb-eligibles/too many OFs) are about $99 million.

    Hey Leo...

Well, I'm not really sure why we'd discuss baseball on Bolt Talk...

but, that said, I am seriously encouraged by Preller's youthful enthusiasm and hyper-activity.

The Shields & Kemp moves make me--as a very casual Padres fan--think that the
Padres are really willing to field a competitive team for the first time in a long time.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a game in September, without the team already being far out of the hunt...?

If there's no reason to talk baseball on Bolt Talk then Bolt Talk shouldn't have an "All other Sports" sub-forum.

But the question was rhetorical. I was really just broaching the subject. I know most Chargers fans (at least on this forum) have been typically pessimistic about the Padres (often times for valid reasons) so I wanted to bring it up.

Add Craig Kimbrel, best closer in baseball.

This team is trying to win NOW... In AJ we trust?
